About this Cook
I'm 26, and like cooking and baking from scratch. I am a homemaker for my wonderful husband, who loves to eat-it's a match made in Heaven! I bake at Christmas for my extended family, as well. It's a tough crowd, since I come from a family of caterers, chefs, and professional bakers!
My favorite things to cook
I love southern food, but am not a fan of tomatoes and onions, so I like to adapt southern recipes to our liking as often as possible. I enjoy making homemade biscuits and sausage gravy, stuffed strawberry french toast, homemade doughnuts, lasagna, homemade bread, rolls, chicken pot pie, and casseroles.
My favorite family cooking traditions
Christmas cookies, bars, and fudge are essentials in our family, and we've always gotten together to do them as much as possible.
My cooking triumphs
My first professional-style decorated cake for a church fundraiser, it was a teddy bear shaped cake, too cute! (I was 18) I've won some cooking competitions and have had recent successes with canning and creating my own recipes!
My cooking tragedies
My first batch of from-the-box mac 'n cheese, (I was 9) I didn't cook the noodles long enough, and didn't realize I was supposed to DRAIN the water before adding the cheese packet...ewww!

Apple Squares
I followed this recipe exactly minus the nuts. It could use more apple, but was tasty and we will definitely be making again!

Old-Fashioned Vanilla Pudding
Awesome quick (well as quick as homemade pudding gets) recipe! All other recipes I've tried had things in a different order and I liked the convenience of this one. Easily doubles.

Brooke's Best Bombshell Brownies
Chewy and thick and not at all cake-like...just like I wanted. I also have to say, these are the first brownies I've ever made that were thick, didn't have overly crispy edges, AND cut beautifully? I threw them in the freezer for about 5 minutes to cool properly so I could cut immediately, and they cut perfectly! I'm in heaven and will never make another recipe. I did add about 2/3 cup of chopped pecans as well.
