My favorite things to cook
I find it stressful to try to cook anything Chinese because I never think my cooking is good enough. Also it takes hours and hours to cook a proper Chinese meal - so much chopping, marinating, and so many dishes! So I love to make anything that is *not* Chinese food. (It's sad, I know.)

Strawberry Shortcake
This was delicious! I replaced the shortening with butter but I actually liked that the cake was not as sweet as the rest of it. I put sugar in the whipped cream and dusted icing sugar over the top before serving, which provided some more sweetness. I also experimented with putting a layer of good strawberry jam (like Bon Maman or something homemade) in between the two layers of the shortbread, which added some more sweetness as well. Will definitely keep this in my recipe box!

Soft Chocolate Chip Cookies II
Wonderful recipe! I used 3/4 cup of butter (didn't have shortening) and it was fantastic. They did not spread too thin during baking. However, I used two different types of cookie sheets--one that is a normal flat plan with non-stick paper on it, and the other was a silpat silicon cookie sheet. The silpat batch came out thinner, but still delicious and totally soft and chewy. I'll definitely make these again!

Lasagne Verdi al Forno
This is pretty much a perfect recipe. I didn't make my own lasagne, and instead of using the mixture of minced pork and minced ham I used chopped up English bacon (which was the closest thing I could find here in England) and it still tasted delicious-- and all that on my first try on making it!
