Me and my husband!
About this Cook
I'm a newlywed who loves to cook and try new recipes. My husband is a great guinea pig and loves to try whatever I make. I'm the supervisor of the English dept in a high school. In my free time I love to read, shop, and COOK!
My favorite things to cook
I like trying new chicken recipes, and I looooove to bake
My favorite family cooking traditions
Anything Italian! I learned how to make marinara the usual Italian way--from my grandma, with no measurements. A little bit of this and a little bit of that!
My cooking triumphs
Making dinner for my parents and in-laws for the first time...having my entire family over for Christmas and doing all the cooking...not making the same thing for one whole year.
My cooking tragedies
I made the most disgusting pork chops in the slow cooker once. They were moist in a bad way and smelled crappy too. YUCK!

Chocolate Pecan Pie I
I followed the recipe exactly and this pie was excellent. After reading all the suggestions to melt the chocolate, I decided I didn't want to do that bc I wanted chunks of chocolate throughout, so I left the chips alone, like the recipe says. The only issue I faced was cooking time. The center was essentially still liquid after 50 min so I covered the pie in foil for another 15 min and it was done. I brought this to Thanksgiving and it was a HUGE hit with my family.

Chocolate Chip Peppermint Cookies
I was hesitant to make these bc some of the recent reviews aren't great. But I tried it anyway and they turned out GREAT. They are the perfect balance between chocolate and mint and my family loved them. I added 1 1/2 teaspoons of mint extract for a little stronger mint flavor and it was great. I also used 1 cup of semi sweet chips and 1/4 cup mini semi sweet chips. Delish!

Lentil and Sausage Soup
As other reviewers suggested, I used hot Italian sausage and added in 1/2 teaspoon crushed red pepper (and the rest of the spices the recipe called for). The result was a spicy, delicious soup! We like our soups a little thicker so I added 9 cups of water and three bouillon cubes and it was perfect. I cooked on low for about 1.5 hours and it was done. Great recipe.
