I am a 33 year old SAHM to 2 children. Growing up in a household that ate all processed, quick, convenience foods, I had no clue how to cook when I got married 4 years ago. I have immersed myself in the Food Network, cookbooks, and hands on experience to prepare food that is healthy and *hopefully* tasty for my family and myself.
My favorite things to cook
My husband and I come from an Arabic/Greek background, so that is usually what you will find at our house. However, I love to bake and make desserts, and I also love to make all kinds of soup. I find that my kids will eat anything if I can put it into a soup!
My favorite family cooking traditions
I love to involve my children whenever possible - so far my son is an integral part of my pork chop making! Of course, Christmas cookies is a fond memory that I have from growing up that I look forward to sharing with my growing family. Birthdays are also a big deal and I always make and decorate the cakes myself. Additionally, if my husband and I don't have things going on during the weekend (which we usually don't) we trade off making a nice meal for the other after the kids are in bed. I used to think that I always came out ahead on that one because my husband is an excellent cook, but slowly we are becoming more evenly matched!
My cooking triumphs
Learning to make Lebanese rice that wasn't gummy or nasty- what a labor of love! I tried this recipe so many times and I have finally just learned to get it just right. My mother in law spent the day with me three years ago teaching me how to make it and it took this long to get it right! My husband and I have pulled off a very successful Thanksgiving dinner for 2 years now- let's hope three is a charm!
My cooking tragedies
For the life of my I cannot make a salad dressing or Rice Krispie Treats!
