About this Cook
Married to a man who knows as much - if not more - about cooking as I do. My 13 year old son lets us know right away when we've had a success - or failure!
My favorite things to cook
Stuffed manicotti, chili, omelettes, and anything that can be called "Dessert" -- but especially apple pie with special Indiana apples.
My favorite family cooking traditions
Biscuits and sausage gravy on Sunday morning, big pots of chili for football season in the evening.
My cooking triumphs
Finally learning not to rush the sausage gravy, having it come out tasting like gravy and not flour
My cooking tragedies
All the previous instances of gravy, and having an oven that smoked every time I cooked, which set off the smoke alarm in the house.

A Baker's Secret for Bread Machines
Like many, I subbed margarine for the lard, put the yeast on top and added a tablespoon of sugar - and this bread is the best that's come out of my bread machine yet! The crust was actually edible instead of a near-steel casing, and the bread was light and soft instead of almost-gooey. This will definitely be made more often at my house!

Jumbo Breakfast Cookies
Like many reviewers, I changed the cereal type, but these cookies are awesome! They stay soft, even after a couple of days, and they are perfect for early morning because they're not too sweet. Add a glass of cold milk or a cup of coffee and you're good to go!

White Bread For The Bread Machine
My family LOVES this bread, and it's so easy to make that I'm cranking out at least one loaf a day, if not more! My only complaint seems to be directly the opposite of the rest of the folks, in that mine rises TOO high, pushing the top open on my bread machine! For those who are having problems with it not rising and/or collapsing -- the water you're putting in at the start may be too warm. I keep a large (1.5 litre) bottle of spring water on my counter and use that (room temperature) for the water, instead of the slightly-warmer water the recipe calls for. Soon I'm going to start doing more experimenting with it as far as adding cheese, herbs, etc.
