Baba Ghanoush

Reviewed: Jul. 3, 2007
i was very underwhelmed by this recipe. it was watery, and too garlicy. i added some liquid smoke as suggested, which certainly helped. i think i will keep looking, although when paired with falafel, it wasn't too bad.

Baked Teriyaki Chicken

Reviewed: Jun. 26, 2007
everyone loved this dish. i used chicken breasts, and marinated them for about an hour. then baked at 375 for 30 minutes and at 400 for about 15 minutes more. they were drier than i'd hoped, so next time i will skip the last 15 minutes at a higher temp and just cook at 375 the whole way through. there was enough sauce for everyone (but we didn't use it on the rice). i used rice vinegar and brown sugar, plus a bit more ginger. thanks for the recipe!

Banana Banana Bread

Reviewed: Jun. 20, 2007
this is moist and very banana-y but i think it would benefit from the addition of walnuts. when i say moist, i mean, fall apart in your hands. i'd have liked one that, well, didn't so much. my son asked and asked to make banana bread, but then didn't eat much. i think i'll use this recipe again, but with some adjustments.

Country White Bread

Reviewed: Jun. 5, 2007
i used splenda, and maybe that accounts for the fact that i thought this was a bit too sweet. but other than that, this is a great recipe: simple and fairly quick, for bread. i used the mixer and appropriate attachments, and had no trouble. probably used 7 cups of flour instead of the 6 and a half. i made one larger loaf and two smaller ones. they had a lovely color, and the consistency was ... well, not dense, but very soft, and it almost melts in your mouth. i will make this again.

People Chow

Reviewed: Jun. 4, 2007
make sure your chocolate/butter mix is melted just right and thin enough to coat the cereal easily. 2 cups of powdered sugar is plenty. this is just as i remember it from being a kid. yum!

Restaurant-Style Buffalo Chicken Wings

Reviewed: Jun. 4, 2007
these went over well and i was told they were "really good" (i'm a vegetarian and so must rely on the report of others :))but there were plenty of left-overs.... the one suggestion i got was "more sauce", which became obvious as i cooked. i might make these again for another party, but not for my family.

Seven Layer Taco Dip

Reviewed: Jun. 4, 2007
yum. easy, too. but it's missing something key: avocados. and my friend suggesting next time mixing the taco mix with the sour cream/cream cheese instead of the bean; half in both would add a kick to both layers.

Shrimp Enchiladas

Reviewed: May 26, 2007
boring and flavorless. i just wanted to throw something together and wanted it to be something new. so i found this and thought what the heck? although, i knew the olive oil in the same pan cooking the tortillas was a bad idea, so i didn't do that ... but i was mostly interested in the marinade, which in the end lended no flavor at all to the shrimp. i will stick with what i know. sorry.

Wrapped Salmon

Reviewed: May 22, 2007
i can't imagine how this would have tasted if i had not followed advice to kick up the dijon. even then, i didn't care for this at all. the fish was dry and the dough still gooey. the flavors just didn't go well together at all -- and i really love salmon and cook with it often. i threw most of it away. sorry, i really wanted to like this.

Fabulous French Loaves

Reviewed: May 22, 2007
this is bread, and it isn't bad, but it's nothing special and doesn't seem much like traditional french bread. i won't make this again, i think i'll keep looking.

Shrimp and Crab Bisque

Reviewed: May 22, 2007
i used soy half-n-half and crab only. i added some old bay, paprika, and cayenne -- also browned 2 cloves of garlic in the butter as recommended. left out the chicken bouillon. this recipe is simple and yummy but i feel it still lacks something. i will definitly make it again, and continue to experiment. thank goodness for soy rpoducts so that i can enjoy this kind of food again!

Viva Madrid Spanish Chicken

Reviewed: May 20, 2007
i also left out the dates. My husband and son both really enjoyed this dish, except that my husband isn't a big fan of all the bacon and onion bits in the end (he has texture issues). Next time, I will complete the sauce, strain it, and then add the chicken again for his sake. I also added a bit of cornstarch to thicken the sauce. I have no idea why people said this would take so long, it didn't take me any time at all.

Asian Lettuce Wraps

Reviewed: May 17, 2007
i'm vegetarian, and i used imitation beef crumble for this; it was delicious. easy to make and fun to eat -- i made this site's cilantro peanut dip to go with it and it was a hit. i will make this again. thanks!

Chocolate Peanut Butter Cups

Reviewed: May 17, 2007
these are really good and fun to make. i would not recommend using "candy melt" chocolate, since it's very waxy. i used dark chocolate chips, but next time i will have more on hand, since the whole package wasn't quite enough to make 12. i would also recommend making the bottoms thicker than the tops, just because it makes it easier to get them out (i also just put them right in without paper cups) . i used chunky peanut butter, but then had to add some creamy to make the sugar/pb mixture. either way, it was delicious. when you're adding the pb mixture, make sure you leave room around the edges so that when you pour chocolate on top it will touch the bottom layer, and not leave any holes. i will definitly make these again.

Asian Coconut Rice

Reviewed: May 4, 2007
i would have given this 3 starts except that my husband liked it and he's sooo picky. not very flavorful in my opinion. cilantro is a good addition. you must use jasmine rice or other asian variaties. don't use plain long grain white.

Chewy Peanut Butter Brownies

Reviewed: Apr. 25, 2007
i also used about 3/4 c of peanut butter, reversed the white and brown sugars, and didn't add salt. baked at 300 degrees for about 35 minutes. they are a bit crumbly rather than chewy, and a bit dry. next time i will add an extra egg. frosted with a light chocolate frosting. these are good, and with some adjustments, i will make them again;******* made these again wihout any changes, and added erin's frosting suggestion. i even made them without the benefit of an electric mixer, AND while holding my ten-month-old son. my husband, who begs for a great pb bar, loved these. 5 stars, and added to my permenant collection ... :)

Baked French Toast

Reviewed: Apr. 16, 2007
i wish i could rate this 3 1/2 stars. i just can't give it 4. this was really sweet, way too sweet for breakfast for us, mainly because the sauce practically WAS candy. i turned the bread over during it's soak in the fridge and when baking and it still stuck a bit to the pan. it also looked very unappealing. i was the only one who ate it. it tasted good, but nothing new or exciting. sorry!
