Apple Hermits

I used whole wheat flour, and subsequently added a tablespoon or so of water. Also left out the raisins. These are moist and wonderful. Absolutely my favorite cookie right now.

Mom's Favorite Baked Mac and Cheese

We didn't use american cheese, since we were keeping it lactose free. The adults loved it, but the kids wouldn't have anything to do with mac-n-cheese that didn't look like Kraft.

We didn't use frosting. We melted chocolate, added a bit of shortening, and used all sorts of sprinkles. We also melted peanut butter chips and butterscotch chips, white chocolate and dark chocolate. We drizzled one over the other to create flavor combinations. Gave them away for the holidays. Lots of fun :)

Apple and Onion Beef Pot Roast

this is boring and tastes just like slow-cooked meat. i thought the apple and onion might add an interesting flavor (sweet and savory) but it didn't. i'll stick with my traditional pot roast.

Homemade Banana Pudding Pie

you could not possibly fit 2 cups of cookies and all of those layers into a regular 9" pie pan. if you want all the layers, i'd suggest using a 2 quart dish. as it was, i just put a layer of cookies and bananas, topped with the pudding, added some more banana slices, and then the meringue. it was gone in less than 24 hours, and i think my husband ate it himself. i'll make it again.

High Temperature Eye-of-Round Roast

i don't even like meat. no, really. i have been off again/on again vegetarian for years just because i am not a meat fan. but this was perfect. i rubbed with salt and pepper and brushed on browing liquid. 2.5 lb roast was at 500 for 20 minutes and then sat for over an hour. everyone agreed this was a perfect eye of round roast. i have another just waiting for the same treatment :)

Extreme Chocolate Cake

thank goodness, a great chocolate cake recipe. i wouldn't recommend splitting this into 4 layers though, they're too thin. i filled this with the buttercream and alternated with raspberry filling, and drizzled some on top too. it was a huge hit. i'll definitely keep this one.

White Almond Wedding Cake

this was very moist, but any cake with added sour cream usually is. i didn't add pudding, and it wasn't needed. the almond is nice, but this did taste like cake mix. held up well under fondant. i might use this again but with filling and other extracts and zest, etc, to liven up the flavor. i'd rather make my own from scratch ...

Marshmallow Fondant

when they suggest using butter/crisco to coat your hands when kneading, do not simply coat. saturate them, use as much as possible or you'll get it all over your hands -- it it's very hard to get off. that was the worst part. rolling it was work but not impossible. in the end it turned out looking very nice, but not as nice a regular fondant. it tasted mostly like marshmallows; i would definitely try using other extracts other than vanilla to enhance the flavor

Fresh Strawberry Pie I

although the recipe says "1" package of jello, 3 ounces is several packages. i used two (1.2) ounces, and that was much too much in combo with the cornstarch. the filling was hard to get through, even with a knife. much too thick and sticky.
