About this Cook
I usually only cook or bake for occasions (if i have to bring something in to school, birthdays, parties) but I enjoy it well enough. I like to read Tolkien, Pratchett, Vonnegut, and several other authors. I love animals and aspire to be a veterinarian.
My favorite things to cook
I mostly enjoy baking and I'm trying out new vegetarian recipes. I like baking cakes and cookies but also enjoy trying to imitate my mom's dishes (so far, no luck).
My favorite family cooking traditions
I am Vietnamese/Chinese and we almost never eat out, so I get good Asian food every night. I don't get to eat some things like pho because i'm vegetarian.

Eggless Peanut Butter Cookies
well, initially i meant to make an egg cookie. then i found out that we had none. so i foudnthis recipe. i was then further frustrated by the fact that we had no shortening, so used butter, and then used a milk-vinegar substitute rather than buttermilk. I was afraid that they would turn out terrible, but they're GREAT, and it was well worth the frustration. oh, and chocolate chips top them off nicely.

Crisp Oatmeal Cookies
this was a great recipe! i used all brown sugar like others suggested and bumped teh oatmeal up to 1 cup. I added some dried cranberries and added an entire teaspoon of vanilla.I also used butter instead of shortening because i didnt have any, but they turned out fine. they turned out wonderful--i think next time i'll add some cinnamon. it was a great thing to bake because i wasn't well stocked in suppplies--it was simple, quick, and delicious.

Chewiest Brownies
at first we followed the recipe exactly. but when we mixed the egg mixture with the dry stuff it just turned out crumbly and very powdery. we tried adding an extra egg. then we tried adding milk--but we ran out, so we added 2 tbs of soymilk. with no prevail, we decided to just double the recipe (add more of everything but the cocoa) and it came out fine. It was a very very dense dough and we had trouble spreading it in the pan. it was very dry and very rich. i wonder what i did wrong? it is a little misleading to rate a recipe high when there were so many alterations done to it. If you altered a recipe, repost it! Please don't just give it high ratings.
