Chicken Honey Mustard Pie

Reviewed: Mar. 25, 2007
Wow! I made this for supper today and it was a really big hit. I didn't have any 9" pie crusts on hand, but I did have a bunch of 8" crusts, so I scaled the recipe by 1.5 in order to fill two crusts. I was hoping to have some left to freeze or to serve tomorrow, but that's not looking too likely at this point. Other than the scaling, I followed the recipe to the letter (since there was no time given for marinating the chicken, I just left it in a zippered bag overnight). I served it with mashed potatoes, which made a really nice accompaniment for it. I will definitely be making this again.

Homestyle Potato Chips

Reviewed: Jan. 27, 2007
Okay, I just finished cooking the first batch of thse, and they are absolutely amazing! I couldn't get them quite paper thin with my vegetable slicer (they are about the thickness of the cardboard used in cereal boxes, maybe even a little thicker), but they still came out crispy and very tasty. I have been cooling them on wire racks with a cookie sheet placed underneath to catch any stray oil, but so far there hasn't been much since most of it drains back into the deep fryer. I hope the rest of the family gets to try these as well - they are disappearing fast!

Sausage Spaghetti Spirals

Reviewed: Jan. 21, 2007
This was amazing! I didn't have Italian sausage on hand (just breakfast sausages), but it still came out great. It has a lot of the flavour of lasagna, but with only a fraction of the effort. I will definitely make this one again.

Chocolate Chip Muffins

Reviewed: Jan. 8, 2007
These were good, but not great. I was looking for something more moist, I think. Still, everyone here seems to like them, and they were incredibly easy to make, so I will likely be making these again.

Sadie's Longboy Cheeseburgers

Reviewed: Nov. 29, 2006
Wow! This was very simple to make and it tasted great. As other reviews have stated, the bread was a little overdone by the time the meat was cooked, but for me it was only a few millimeters on the outside that were crunchy - the inside of the bread was still soft. Maybe the fact that I used one of our homemade loaves made a difference. Anyway, I will certainly be making this one again. Thanks for an amazing recipe!

Chicken Veggie Casserole

Reviewed: Nov. 22, 2006
I had no cream of chicken soup on hand, so I used cream of mushroom instead. I also added some Italian seasoning to the chicken for more flavour. Like the previous reviewer, I found that this had to be cooked much longer than indicated - it took more than 90 minutes for the potatoes to soften enough to be eaten. The end result was pretty tasty, but I don't think I'll be making this one again unless I happen to have some leftover chicken and nothing else to do with it.

Lemon Chicken Tenders

Reviewed: Nov. 13, 2006
These were great! I made them exactly as specified in the recipe, with the only exception being that I had the oven a little cooler than specified because I was also roasting some potatoes to go with them. I whipped up a little honey mustard sauce to dunk them in, and served them with the potatoes and some steamed carrots for a great meal. These will certainly be made again here - thanks for a great recipe!

Cream of Celery Soup

Reviewed: Nov. 6, 2006
I've only ever made this recipe when another recipe calls for cream of celery soup and I have none on hand, but it has turned out great every time; in fact, I think those recipes were much better off without the canned stuff! I don't understand why you would want to strain out the vegetables, though - aren't they the best part of the soup?

Slow-Cooked Meat Loaf

Reviewed: Oct. 28, 2006
This recipe was extremely easy to prepare. Having the potatoes and carrots cook with the meat loaf is a brilliant idea. The only reason I would not give it 5 stars is because the meat loaf itself was a little bland compared with what I am used to. The next time I make it (and that's "when", not "if"), I think I will just toss in all my regular flavourings and see how it turns out. Knowing that the loaf actually retains its shape is a big help - before now I would have been worried about the whole thing turning to mush. Thanks for an excellent recipe!

Pumpkin Chocolate Chip Muffins

Reviewed: Oct. 25, 2006
I made these this morning with my 3 year old son; less than 12 hours later, there are only 3 of them left. Everyone here just loves them! The only alteration we made to the recipe was putting in a full cup of chocolate chips. The next time I make these, I will definitely be doubling the recipe (or maybe even quadrupling it, since I buy big cans of pumpkin from E.D. Smith). Thanks for a wonderful recipe!

Spicy Baked Sweet Potato Fries

Reviewed: Oct. 18, 2006
These were okay. I think part of the problem may be that we don't normally buy sweet potatoes, so the flavour takes some getting used to. Also, even after following the advice of several reviews and lowering the temperature, some of the fries still burned quite badly. I may try this again if I'm ever feeling adventurous, but I'm not really in a hurry to try again.

Hobo Dinner

Reviewed: Sep. 25, 2006
Sorry, but this was rather bland. Some more herbs or spices (or flavouring of any kind) would be needed to make this worth making again.

Pizza Sauce and Dough

Reviewed: Sep. 17, 2006
I already have my own recipe for pizza dough that has never failed me, but yesterday I had no pizza sauce on hand so I found this recipe. Am I ever glad I did - the sauce tastes incredible! It has just the right mix of tomato flavour and sweetness, and using whole tomatoes and chopped onions adds a lot of chunkiness to it. It makes a LOT of sauce too; I'm going to freeze the leftover sauce, and it will probably be enough to last me for the next few months (although I may want to make pizza more often now, so maybe it won't last quite that long!). Thanks very much for an excellent recipe.

Oven Roasted Potatoes

Reviewed: Sep. 15, 2006
Amazing! We go to a local buffet occasionally that has these excellent roasted potatoes, and my wife and I always wonder how they make them and if we could make potatoes like that ourselves. The last time we were there, I decided to try searching on this website for a recipe. This was the first one I tried, and it may well be the only one I'll ever use. The potatoes came out crispy on the outside and tender on the inside - exactly the textures I was hoping for. My wife and I both agree that they are even better than our favourite potatoes from the buffet. I should mention that I didn't use all the spices listed in the recipe; I just used Italian seasoning and a pinch of salt. I also followed the advice of another reviewer and placed everything into a zippered bag so they could be shaken. Thank you for an excellent recipe - it will certainly be made again here!

Garlic Croutons

Reviewed: Sep. 12, 2006
My 2 year old has developed a taste for croutons, so I thought it would be a good idea to make some for him from our homemade bread. This was the first recipe I tried, and he absolutely loves them! As a bonus, I now have a use for all the stale bread I find left in the bread box. Thank you for a great recipe!

Shepherd's Pie VI

Reviewed: Sep. 12, 2006
Awesome! This has much more flavour than the shepherd's pie I'm used to making. It disappeared really fast too, as my wife and daughter both wanted seconds. I'll definitely be making this one again. Thanks for an excellent recipe!

Grilled Sausage with Potatoes and Green Beans

Reviewed: Sep. 10, 2006
I was all ready to make this for supper today when the barbecue ran out of propane. But thankfully I had read a review from someone who cooked it in an oven, so that's what I did, and it turned out great! If it's this good in the oven, I can't wait until I can try it on the grill.

Crispy and Creamy Doughnuts

Reviewed: Sep. 6, 2006
I made these a couple of days ago and everyone in my family just loves them. The only problem I had was that the dough was WAY too thick for the mixer, so I ended up just mixing most of the flour in with my hands, like I would for bread dough. Also, maybe we just have a small donut cutter, but I ended up getting about 40 donuts (and a corresponding number of "Timbits") out of the dough. After sampling a few, the rest fit easily into plastic containers of a dozen each, 2 of which were promptly frozen. The donuts taste just fine after being thawed. Thank you for the wonderful recipe - I will definitely be making these again!

Fresh Peach Cobbler I

Reviewed: Aug. 31, 2006
Wow. My first time ever trying or making peach cobbler, and it turned out absolutely wonderful. I will definitely set aside some time to make this every time we get a batch of fresh peaches. I had no ice cream or whipped cream to serve it with, but that's okay - these reviews only go to 5 stars anyway, and it's already there on its own. Thank you!

Cabbage Rolls II

Reviewed: Aug. 18, 2006
Absolutely wonderful! We just got our first slow cooker and I found this recipe after searching the site for crockpot recipes. I had never made cabbage rolls before, but these turned out exactly like the ones I remember eating as a kid. My wife loved them too, although they were a little too pepper-y for our kids. But I will definitely be making this again.
