I am an English instructor at Winona State University in Winona, MN. I have two children ages 6 and 3. I began cooking for my family at age 11 when my mom was working. I would make dinners for her, my sister, and I. I was always looking for new recipes even then. I took that expereince with me when I lived with friends in college and then when I got married. My husband never complains about my cooking. I'd like to think I'm pretty good.
My favorite things to cook
I love to cook anything new. I'm always trying new recipes. Easy Italian and Mexican dishes are my favorite though.
My favorite family cooking traditions
Unfortunately, there isn't any one thing that has been passed down to me from my families. But Thanksgiving with my family at my mom's was always my favorite time of year.
My cooking triumphs
Usually when I try a new recipe it turns out pretty well. I do wish I was better at improvising, but I am getting better and paring down the fat and calories in recipes after reading a lot of recipes in Light and Tasty.
My cooking tragedies
There is one thing I just can't seem to master--beef and noodles or beef stroganoff. I don't know why. I've been trying to perfect that meal for seven years (since I first got married) and haven't done it yet.
