Chocolate Covered Cherries

Reviewed: Dec. 13, 2010
I doubled the recipe for the fondant, and added 2 TBSP maraschino cherry juice, and 2 tsp Almond extract which made it very extra yummy!!! I dont know if they will last long enough to even get a chance to liquify, but doesnt really matter, because they are delicious as is!! I used shortening on my hands to keep the fondant from sticking to my hands, and it worked really well. I used the cherries without the stems and had no problems with leakage. Thanks for a great recipe!! These will be on my list of Christmas candy to make for years to come!

Deviled Eggs

Reviewed: Nov. 26, 2010
These are the best deviled eggs ever!! I do recommend reducing the amount of salt though, as this was too much salt and had I added the full amount it called for, they would have been waaay too salty. Other than that, this is the best deviled egg recipe I have ever tried. Will not use another recipe ever again, this is a keeper!! Thanks Margaret!

Classic Waffles

Reviewed: Sep. 19, 2010
This was very good! I added more sugar and vanilla as another reviewer suggested, and also mixed up the ingredients in a blender, which made it super easy and less mess. Will be making again and again!

Kentucky Style Fried Green Tomatoes

Reviewed: Jul. 18, 2010
Phenomenal!! These are even better than the ones we get at a hometown restaurant here in Ky.. The bacon grease really gives them the flavor, and I agree with another reveiwer who suggested sprinkling the sugar on them right after frying. We serve these with cocktail sauce. So glad I found this recipe.. Will use again and again!

Vintage Lemonade

Reviewed: Jul. 18, 2010
Seems like this has potential but it turned out too bitter for my liking, I used the whole lemon as the recipe calls for and not just the zest. Will try this again with just the lemon zest and see how that turns out.

Penne and Vodka Sauce

Reviewed: May 6, 2010
I have made this twice now, and highly agree with the people who say the pancetta makes or breaks this recipe! The first time I used a high quality pancetta that I bought from our Whole Foods store and it was OUTSTANDING! The second time, I used pre-packaged pancetta that I got from our local Walmart, and it turned out only eh,ok, not quite the same quality as it was the first time. With that said, I cant see how substituting bacon for the pancetta would even begin to give this the flavor it needs to be a superb dish. Will definately make again and again, but only when I am using the high quality pancetta!

Turkey Pot Pie I

Reviewed: Dec. 1, 2009
This hit the spot, exactly what i was looking for! The only thing I did different, was that I didnt have any parsley on hand, so I omitted it, and I used chicken stock instead of the bouillon, which I think gave it a much richer flavor. I also added corn since I had leftovers from Thanksgiving. If I would have had peas, I would have added those since I love peas in my potpies. Next time I may add more liquid so that it doesnt dry out when reheated. Other reviewers have recommened adding soup to this recipe, but I would not recommend this, its wonderful the way it is. But I am not a fan of the cream soups, so to each thier own. I will definately use this as my go to recipe from now on, it beats my old pot pie recipe by far!! Thanks for a great recipe!

Cream Cheese Squares

Reviewed: Nov. 6, 2009
Wow! These were so easy and yet taste sooo good!! Like a cream cheese danish! I added a bit of lemon zest to the cream cheese mixture, and used 1/4 cup melted butter over the top. They just came out of the oven, but they taste divine! Cant wait for these to set up and cut them for my coworkers!!

Christmas Eve Beef Stew

Reviewed: Nov. 1, 2009
Very good stew!! I made a few changes that made this very similar to Cracker Barrell's beef stew that I love!! This calls for a lot of onions, so I reduced it to only one and a half chopped onions, added two bay leaves, added a few dashes of worcestershire sauce, I used fresh thyme and rosemary and did not add the marjoram. I used all the water called for. I omited the tapioca and used cornstarch to thicken it up. This stew is definately a keeper!! Will use again and again. Thx for a great recipe!

Monkey Bread V

Reviewed: Oct. 25, 2009
Yum!!! This makes an excellent quick breakfast! I did change it up a bit by melting the butter with brown sugar instead of white sugar though. Also I could not find my bundt pan, so I used a muffin tin and baked them for about 10 -15 mins and then drizzled with powdered sugar icing, these were just like the cinnamon melts at McDonalds, but better!!!

Emma's Belgian Waffles

Reviewed: Oct. 18, 2009
Alot of work, but sooo worth it!! I've been on the look out for a good waffle recipe since we had Mickey Mouse waffles at Disney that were so light and fluffy, these were very close!! I used all purpose flour with addition of 2-3/4 tsp baking soda.. also I did not let the mixture set a full 40 mins, it was more like 10 or 15 mins, but they still turned out wonderful!!! Thanks Chef Emma for a great recipe :)

Marzipan Candy

Reviewed: Jul. 29, 2009
I love chocolate covered marzipan but its sooo expensive to buy in the stores, so I am so excited to find this recipe and that it turned out so well, and this recipe is far better than the marzipan I have purchased. I am also happy that it is eggless, since my kids love to eat it as well. The only thing I changed, is that I added a teaspoon of almond extract for some extra almond-ey flavor! Thanks for a great recipe!!

Truck-Stop Buttermilk Pancakes

Reviewed: Jul. 4, 2009
These were very good.. A little too thin for my liking, but overall a very yummy pancake!! I had to recalculate the recipe for 5 servings, so I dont know if that is the reason that they were thin, maybe it needs to be made in the amount listed. I also did not have buttermilk on hand, so I used 2 TBSP lemon juice to make a substitution. My husband liked these and he is pretty picky about his pancakes, so I will defintately make these again!! Thanks!

Grandma's Sweet Slaw

Very good coleslaw, just the way we like it. I wouldn't recommend adding or taking away a thing! Dont fuss it up, this is one of those recipes where simpler is better. If you are looking for a non sweet slaw, this one is NOT for you!

Jen's Heavenly Egg Salad

Reviewed: Jun. 23, 2009
This could possibly be the best egg salad I've ever eaten! I normally only make my egg salad the boring way with just mayo and sugar/vinegar , but I wanted to try something with a little more "oomph" and this was definately it!! I omitted the regular mustard and substituted red onions for the green onions, and added a little pinch of sugar for sweetness. Instead of chopping up the eggs and stirring into the mayo/mustard mix, I used a potato masher to mix it all up together at once, which gives the salad a very creamy consistency.. I will be using this as my go to recipe for egg salad from now on. Thanks Jen!

Buche de Noel

Reviewed: Dec. 25, 2008
I am very happy I chose this recipe. I admit I was a bit skeptical about the no flour in this recipe and almost opted not to make it but I love the texture and how it turned out. I was scared after unrolling the "cake" part, it looked horrible, but after I put in the filling and re-rolled it, it did look just like a log!! I opted to ice the outside with the chocolate whip cream filling from this recipe and used another recipe found here: Yule-Log for the filling inside. I am so glad I did! Turned out wonderfully festive and everyone loved it.. I will start making this every year now. I look forward to finding little trinkets throughout the year to add to the log. I couldnt find any this year so all I added was a sprig of holly and a few maraschino cherries for the berries. Cant wait to make this again!

Sugar Cookies

Reviewed: Oct. 29, 2008
This makes an excellent tasting cookie! I followed another reviewers advice, and added lemon instead of vanilla and a hint of nutmeg, and the end result is sooo delicious!! While the taste of these cookies excelled my expectations, the consistency is not up to par for cut outs I am sad to report. They were no problem to roll out, it was the cookie was too delicate after being baked to be frosted. However, this recipe does not state it is suitable for cut outs so I am not going to count off for that, I was merely following the advice of other reviewers who have appeared to have luck with it. I will make these again but stick with rolling them in the ball and flattening with a glass as directions state vs. cut out shapes. Again, the flavor is outstanding!!

Dark Chocolate Cake I

Reviewed: Jun. 29, 2008
This is an unbelievably moist, delicious chocolate cake. Very decadent! I highly recommend this to anyone considering making it. I used it for my daughters birthday cake, and got rave reviews from all my guests!! I topped it with "Special Buttercream Frosting" also taken from this site, and it was out of this world. I do have to say I was a bit nervous about the recipe after mixing it up and pouring into the pans, the batter was very thin and I thought no way it was going to bake up right but it did, and I used two 8" cake pans, and was concerned about overbaking, but I only had to add about 5 mins on to the total time and they came out perfect!! I will definately use this as my Chocolate Cake recipe from here on out!!!

Smooth Sweet Tea

This tea really does taste like or as good as the McD's sweet tea!!! I would never have thought to put a pinch of baking soda in to counteract the bitterness. I am so glad I found this recipe. Thanks!

Glazed Meatloaf I

Reviewed: Apr. 30, 2008
This is an excellent meatloaf recipe. Up until finding this one, i used an old standby recipe that was handed down to me from my mom. I only tried this because of all the rave reviews it got, and it definately is a keeper!! My husband liked this one better than my old recipe. I did make a few changes only because I did not have a few ingredients on hand... Instead of chopped onion and the bouillon granules, i used a packet of Lipton Onion soup, which I think added great flavor. I also used a cup of italian breadcrumbs instead of the cut up bread slices, but next time i will substitute oatmeal becuase i like the texture oatmeal gives meatloaf over the breadcrumbs. The sauce is rather sweet, but that is just the way we like it at our house!! Thanks for a great recipe! Two thumbs up!
