Laura's Quick Slow Cooker Turkey Chili

Reviewed: Nov. 12, 2014
I've used this recipe for 4 years. Never have changed a thing! The whole family LOVES it. Great with some shredded cheese, a dollop of sour cream, and blue corn chips!

I'd give it 10 stars if I could! LOVE IT! Made exactly as recipe stated. My kids love to gift it to teachers the last day of school before Thanksgiving break!

Slow Cooker Buffalo Chicken Sandwiches

Reviewed: Mar. 4, 2012
AWESOME! We use Frank's Buffalo Sauce but never add the butter. The leftovers also make an awesome cold sandwich the next day!

Chicken and Bacon Shish Kabobs

These are a family favorite! Honey isn't something we usually have on hand so I used a little brown sugar instead. They were AMAZING!

Grandma Ople's Apple Pie

Reviewed: Mar. 4, 2012
My little girl really wanted to make an apple pie with me this last Christmas, something we've NEVER done before. This recipe was super easy and so good! The two of us have definitely started a new family tradition. The only change I made was to sprinkle cinnamon over the apples before I laid on the crust. I do think I'll pour 3/4 of the caramel in before laying down the crust next time and then brush the rest of it over the crust because, after refrigerating, the crust did become a bit soggy.

Snickerdoodles IV

Reviewed: Mar. 4, 2012
These were good. I used butter in lieu of shortening because I never use shortening in anything. I found just dipping the top of the cookie dough ball into the cinnamon/sugar, rather than rolling it entirely, was sufficient. The whole family loved them.

Icebox Sugar Cookies

Reviewed: Mar. 4, 2012
As written, I think this is an okay recipe (my biggest complaint was the flatness of the cookie). However, I wanted softer cookies so I didn't refrigerate the dough. I also found the dough recipe unusually sticky and, after the first batch fell extremely flat, added another 1/2 C flour to it. *MUCH* better.

Sour Cream Pork Chops

Reviewed: Mar. 4, 2012
Didn't change a thing! I've made this several times now, it's one of my family's favorite way to eat pork chops. They're even delicious without the sour cream gravy!

Easy Sweet Coconut Cookies

Reviewed: Dec. 21, 2011
These are more like a 3.5 the only thing I did differently was to use unsalted butter (I avoid shortening whenever I can). They were good but there was a buttery, filmy, residue feeling in my mouth after eating one. The recipe as is made 2.5 dozen cookies. Overall a good, but not great, recipe. I won't go out of my way to make them but if everything was on hand I might do it again.

Garlic Alfredo Tilapia

Reviewed: May 2, 2011
Fantastic!! Everybody loved it. After topping with the sauce, I like to slice a couple of Roma tomatoes and lay them on top, sprinkle with some mozzarella, and broil for a couple of minutes. Delish!!

Sausage Cabbage Bake

Reviewed: Jan. 16, 2011
Pretty good. I used 1 lb of regular Italian sausage instead of half reg half hot (the kids gotta eat it too) and subbed soy sauce for Worcestshire (was out and didn't realize it). I would leave out the pepper next time as it still had a bit of a bite for the kiddos. I also had to double the sauce but that may have been my own fault as I think I added too much cabbage and rice. Was good though and we're having the leftovers for lunch today :)

Vegetarian Penne

Reviewed: Jan. 16, 2011
The thyme was overpowering and I had to add water to the cream mixture to get it THIN it was so ridiculously thick. I decreased the butter to 2 tbsp and it was still too much, the veggies tasted like they were coated in it. I'm not even interested in trying again and tweaking.

Made with corkscrew pasta (what I had on hand) and loved it! Everyone did except my 3 year old who only liked the sauce and the chicken, lol. Will definitely make again. Thanks for sharing!

Chicken and Rice Soup I

Reviewed: Aug. 26, 2010
Rating as 4 stars because I did make a few changes. I added one chopped carrot, some garlic salt, a bay leaf, and some thyme to the water/bouillon mix (used the water I had boiled the chicken in). I also used whole wheat flour because and brown rice because it's what I had. If using brown rice, your cook time is going to increase by about 30 minutes and you're going to want at least another cup of water. It was DELICIOUS! My 5 and 12 year old had 2 bowls! Not a bite was left, definitely going to double the recipe next time!

Puerto Rican Garlic Marinade

Reviewed: Jul. 6, 2010
Delicious! The seasoning was just right for the 2.75 lbs of pork chops we had. Let them marinate for about an hour and a half and then baked (the weather was uncooperative). They were wonderful! Will definitely be using again. Thanks!

Beer-Batter Onion Rings

Reviewed: Jul. 6, 2010
These were great! I used organic whole wheat flour. I did have to add about 1/ - 1/2 c more beer to get rid of the doughy consistency though (which I attribute to my choice of flour)My kids loved them, even the one that doesn't like onion rings when we eat out. Definitely going to try adding different seasoning to the batter. Thanks so much for sharing!

Teriyaki Turkey Meatballs

Reviewed: Jul. 6, 2010
These were just okay. I didn't have any ginger but other than that I made them as written. I think what's really missing is a good sauce to simmer them in after baking. They do have potential but, as is, something is missing.

Old Fashioned Potato Salad

Reviewed: May 17, 2010
This was a very good potato salad. I'm giving it 4 stars because I did make adjustments - the measurements just seem backwards for some of the major ingredients. For starters I doubled the potatoes (five seemed way too few). Two eggs were plenty and I also used about 1/2 of the celery and kept the onion called for the same. Even with doubling the potatoes there weren't enough to warrant 1/2 c relish so I used about a tbsp each sweet and dill. I subbed regular salt for the celery as I don't care for an overwhelming celery flavor and I used 3/4-1 full c mayo. Except for slightly overcooking the potatoes, it was great.

Easy Garlic Chicken

Reviewed: Apr. 20, 2010
This was wonderful! I did heed the advice from previous reviews and I only used 1 c bread crumbs. The crumbs I had were plain so I added some garlic salt as well as some garlic and herb seasoning. I increased the butter to 1/2 c and the garlic to 8-9 cloves (using up one head of garlic and starting another so the size of each clove varied quite a bit) as the chicken breasts I was using were pretty big. Baked 45 min at 375 and they were moist and delicious. Served with a green salad and bowtie pasta tossed w/garlic infused EVOO, parmesan, diced roma tomatoes, and parsley. A new favorite!

Italian Pasta Salad I

Reviewed: Apr. 19, 2010
I changed it to suit what I had on hand. Added halved cherry tomatoes instead of red bell pepper and green onion instead of red. I also halved the dressing called for (2 c is overdoing it in my opinion) and added sliced black olives. Everyone in my family loved it! Will definitely be a summer staple this year.
