About this Cook
I am in love with great food. Why should you eat something you don't enjoy? Through my travels I have really figured out what I love. There is something amazing about cooking/baking for other people. I enjoy sharing what I am passionate about with others.
My favorite things to cook
I actually write a baking column for our local newspaper featuring 'Gourmet Cupcakes' So, I am very into inventive baking. I come up with my own recipes. I love cooking foods from all cultures and locations. I am willing to try anything once.
My favorite family cooking traditions
On Christmas Eve my Father and I always make latkes together. It is an odd tradition considering Chanukah isn't always during Christmas. But it is just something we both love and share together.
My cooking triumphs
One Christmas my Mother was recovering from major cardiac surgery and was unable to cook our Christmas dinner. I had to step up to the plate and cooked my first turkey this year. It turned out perfect and I was so proud. Now I love cooking for large groupos of people.
My cooking tragedies
I love to bake cookies, however I have been known to make errors... occasionally! I was watching a movie and baking cookies. I accidentally forgot to add an entire cup of flour to the cookies. Well, they spread out and took over the entire pan. Ooooooooozing down off the baking sheet and into the oven. Mmm peanut butter goo. It was a very bad scene.

Ruth's Grandma's Pie Crust
I really love this recipe. I tend to make a deep dish pie so this recipe will give me one double pie crust plus some cut outs for the top. I can get two double pie crusts when using a fairly flat, traditional pie plate. I shred my 'frozen' shortening into the dry ingredients and then I use a pastry cutter until I have a fine meal. I found that after 30 minutes of chilling- this dough was extremely easy to work with. Remember the less you work with the dough when rolling- the better it will be! The more you work it that tougher it becomes (this is true of most pie dough recipes!) This makes a beautiful pie crust! I use an egg wash on my crust before baking. And, if it is a fruit pie I will sprinkle sugar overtop as well. Perfect.

The Best Rolled Sugar Cookies
Fabulous recipe. I only doubled the vanilla. These rolled out like a charm after just an hour in the fridge. I didn't have to add any extra flour. I just ensured my surface and rolling pin were well floured. This is everything you want in a rolled sugar cookie. You won't be sorry using this recipe- I promise!

Basic Pasta
This recipe was incredibly easy. This was my first time making pasta. Despite the hilarious mess the two of us made- It really was delicious! I let the dough rest a bit before rolling and placing it through the pasta maker. The attachment in my mixer made it easy. At this point we didn't change a thing. Next time we will try adding herbs.
