I have recently taken an interest in cooking, have been a working career gal for years, and now finally a SAHM, I've had years of fast meals and processed foods, so I am trying to get back to my roots of home cooked meals!
My favorite things to cook
I am not an "accomplished" cook so anything that I can make and have turn out right the first time is a winner for me!
My favorite family cooking traditions
My family is of Ukranian heritage, so we get to eat Perogies, Cabbage Rolls, and so on. My ultimate favorite comfort foods!
My cooking triumphs
Learning not to be afraid of working with dough or making "complicated" recipes like cheesecake from scratch. Nothing to be afraid of - you'll never learn if you don't try - and the tips on here are great to help you along!
My cooking tragedies
Once when I was about 16, I really wanted to make homemade french fries, but had no idea how to do it. I put oil in a pot and turned up the heat to the highest setting, and for quite a while, by the time I added the potatoes, it developed into a fire! I knew you couldn't pour water on an oil fire, but the flames were starting to get as high as the upper cupboard, so I had to call the fire department! The whole team came, all decked out, for the whole neighborhood to see. I was so embarassed! That kind of scared me away from cooking for awhile!
