Mom's 'Sweet 'n' Sours' Pork Ribs

Reviewed: Sep. 10, 2008
Really great sauce! I followed the procedure exactly and the ribs turned out really well. I changed the ingredients just a bit. I doubled the garlic and also added pineapple chunks as was suggested by another reviewer. Was great over brown rice!

Sweet Russian Cabbage Soup

Reviewed: Sep. 8, 2008
Wow. This is a great soup. My husband, who is usually a more harsh critic, said he'd like to make it again and rated it 4 stars (rare for him to offer more than a 3). I think I'd try the suggestion of another rater next time and half the sugar and increase the vinegar although it is very good this way too. Also, I used fresh tomatoes from the garden rather than the canned and doubled the garlic.

Orange Herb Roasted Chicken

Reviewed: Sep. 6, 2008
I really liked the flavour in this recipe! I was quite generous with all seasonings and it was really tasty. I took the advice of another rater and rubbed the herbs under the skin with the butter. Served it with the allrecipes.com recipe 'Broccoli in Roast Chicken Drippings' and wild rice and it was great! Will make it again for sure.

Broccoli in Roast Chicken Drippings

Reviewed: Sep. 6, 2008
A good way to cook broccoli. Very easy and practical. I wish allrecipes.com had half-star ratings so my husband and I could split the difference. He gave it a lower rating (3 stars) as it is a bit fatty cooked in the chicken drippings. I would've given it 4 stars but I gave in to his rating. I took the advice of another rater and left the broccoli in the oven longer (about 15 minutes or so) and that was great.

Minted Salmon

Reviewed: Jul. 27, 2008
I really enjoyed the mint flavor that came through here. I used a combination of pineapple mint and spearmint that I had growing in the garden.

Tossed Romaine and Orange Salad

Reviewed: May 29, 2008
I love how basic this recipe is and yet is still fantastic! It seems to go with anything. I saved the leftover dressing and made up salad combinations for days using leftover ingredients in the fridge. It was great!

Strawberry Trifle

Reviewed: May 29, 2008
Really tasty and easy to make. I found it was still okay the next day...the bananas didn't go too brown, although you probably would want to serve it fresh if serving to guests!

Triple Berry Crisp

Reviewed: Apr. 28, 2008
This was a good berry crisp and the company that I made it for seemed to like it. I took the advice of other reviewers and added extra fruit and was glad that I did. Also, next time I think I'll use something other than the blackberries as I found them a bit 'seedy' in the crisp (just a personal preference there).

Three Cheese Garlic Scalloped Potatoes

Reviewed: Mar. 24, 2008
I added onions and mushrooms and probably should've left out the mushrooms as they dominated the taste quite a bit. I used 10% cream. I also found that an extra 25 minutes of cooking time was needed to fully cook the potatoes. Also, the cream separated and curdled. Anyone know how to prevent this?

Cabbage on the Grill

Reviewed: Mar. 11, 2008
Fantastic!!! I didn't have a full head of cabbage so the wedges that I cut were smaller than suggested in the recipe. I wrapped each with two slices of bacon and was generous with the butter and garlic powder. This was amazingly good and SO simple to make!

Totally loved this recipe! I used parboiled rice. It tasted like homemade dishes that my Baba used to make. Fantastic. Will definitely make this again!

Roasted Vegetables

Reviewed: Feb. 11, 2008
This is a great way to use up the 'odds and ends' of vegetables that end up leftover in your fridge. Went great with roast chicken. I would serve this to company for sure.

Herbed Dumplings

Reviewed: Feb. 6, 2008
These are SO good and really easy to make. Good thing I read about using less salt. I used the herbs in their original quantities and thought it was fine. Think I'll make the dumplings a bit smaller next time as they swell up pretty big in the stew...but that's just my preference.

Beef Stew with Dumplings

Reviewed: Feb. 6, 2008
My husband and I really liked this recipe. I made dumplings using a different recipe from allrecipes.com (herbed dumplings)as I couldn't find biscuit mix. I added an extra bit of water too. Great on a cold day.
