About this Cook
We decided to move to Lake Tahoe - on the way we have "swung" by Alaska to check it out so my husband can say he lived his dream (that's important) - we have a camper we enjoy taking out to explore in....don't mind grabbing a backpack and getting really out there for a couple of days....nothing wrong than a few days at a luxury resort on an island either...I like to try new foods ALTHOUGH, I am still hesitant on the fish front....
My favorite things to cook
I love to try a new recipe - than it really becomes my own the second time - I learned to cook without a recipe, like my mom does it...
My favorite family cooking traditions
cocktail while cooking - a nice cosmo and I'm all set....
My cooking triumphs
My first big meal was Thanksgiving Dinner - I was about 20, trying to impress the first "really" important boyfriend - invited a few others - called my mom about 15 times during the all day cook - with homemade bread, dressing, huge turkey, all the fixings and homemade pie - I was hooked with the praise....
My cooking tragedies
Had a bunch of people over after church when my older daughter was baptized - served these 2 fantastic cheesecakes that my mom and I had found the recipe for in a newspaper or magazine - we made together - first bite - NO SUGAR - wasn't on the recipe, it was a typo...and it was AWFUL....

Grapefruit and Avocado Salad
Made as is and will again. Added feta as a pass around and everyone enjoyed it that way.

Orange Pork
I cut boneless pork loin chops in halve lengthwise, sprinkled with garlic powder, browned in vegetable oil, transferred to glass 9X13, than made the sauce in the skillet (I added about a couple tablespoons of brown sugar) and poured over pork. Baked in oven at 350 for about 30 minutes. Made a harvest medley rice and roasted some carrots while it was cooking. I got no complaints from anyone, there were no just lacked something I can't put my finger on...I would have liked some red pepper flakes in it to give it a slight zing...but family is not into it...will use recipe again and tweak a little more, but it was a good place to start.
