I started out not knowing how to boil water. When I met my husband he was such a great cook. Slowly but surely I started watching him and then we started cooking together on weekends. I've learned a lot from him, I don't know if I'll ever be as good but I love trying to cook now.
My favorite things to cook
Stuffed cabbage, stuffed peppers, Chicken Divan, Vodka Sauce (since I've mastered it) and Chili. I also love making different kinds of soups so we can freeze them for dinner and lunches.
My favorite family cooking traditions
I love to cook together with my husband during the winter months and especially when the weather is bad. We're starting to get the kids involved, they love to help out in the kitchen. They're favorite is making pizza and helping Mom with baking Brownies or Carrot Cake Bars.
My cooking triumphs
I was having family over from England and I'm still not too good at measuring for more than 4. I made 2 trays of Chicken Divan and it was enough. You serve it over rice, it was great. I was so nervous that it wouldn't turn out alright but everybody loved it. It gave my husband a break w/cooking since he always does it and I really felt good about myself.
My cooking tragedies
My first meal that I decided to make for my boyfriend (now husband) was Penne w/ Vodka Sauce. I got a great recipe from my girlfriend Sue. Unfortunately I didn't understand that you're supposed to cut the garlic up so I threw it in whole and it started burning. My husband could smell it in the living room. Needless to say, he had to redo the meal.
