Grandma's Egg Custard Pie

Reviewed: Dec. 27, 2010
Have never made a custard pie but hubby and father-in-law wanted one for Christmas. This was just like they remember family members making. Made just like written only used 12 oz can evap milk and used 1/2 and 1/2 to make up 2 1/2 cup milks. Warmed in microwave. Pre baked my homemade pie crust before adding filling and baked in a water bath. They are already asking when I plan on baking another one:)

Spooky Witches' Fingers

Reviewed: Nov. 11, 2010
Enjoyed baking these with my grandson. We added green food coloring and I had 1/2 pkg of pistachio pudding (dry) so I added that too. Followed others suggestion and rolled REAL thin. Worked great. I thought they were sweet enough. Not every cookie has to be real sweet.

Garlic Shrimp Linguine

Reviewed: Nov. 11, 2010
This is good. Used 3 T butter and 3 T EVOO. More garlic and also added a couple green onions. Try mixing some bread crumbs or panko crumbs with parm cheese. Right when shrimp turn pink add crumb mixture on top and put under broiler until brown.

Vanilla Pumpkin Pie

Reviewed: Nov. 11, 2010
We love this pie. Not really into the real spicy pies. I made pie as is and it was real good. Decided to put my own twist on this. Changes I made: 1/4 brown sugar and 2/4 white sugar. Also used 6 oz evap milk and 6 oz 1/2 and 1/2. 2 t cinn. 2 t vanilla, 1/4 t ginger and a dash of nutmeg. Like I said...pie is good as is, this is just my families personal likings. Will try with fresh pumpkin next time.

Pig Pickin' Cake

Reviewed: Sep. 14, 2009
I guess we all have our name for this cake. I also from TN call it a Sunshine Cake. One thing my husbands's aunt told me; use a wooden spoon to mix the whip cream w/pineapple. Something about the wooden spoon keeps it stiffer and easier to spread. Using a mixer will make it runnier.

Cranberry-Pumpkin Cookies

Reviewed: Nov. 20, 2008
The cookies were great as is. After reading some of the reviews I made just a few minor changes to suit our taste. i used orange and vanilla extract, real cranberries chopped up and soaked in oj, 3/4 white and 1/4 br sugar. I made the cookies, flattened them before baking and I also used a mini muffin tin. Worked great!! I used a small dough scoop and put in buttered mini tin then flattened just slightly. I made an orange glaze and put on half of cookies/muffin. I like the extra oj taste and really enjoyed biting into the larger pieces of cranberries so don't chop too fine. Muffins stored better than cookies, less soggy a day later.

Raspberry Crumb Cake

Reviewed: Jul. 2, 2008
Boy do I love my family!! I made this as almost as stated only I put raspberry thru a strainer to make a seedless filling. I personally hate the little seeds in my teeth. When adding the rest of cake mix to top I did add a little milk and used a spatula. The mix came off in "sheets" making easier to spread. Imagine how I felt when Hubby said this was " kickin" right up there with his all time fav mandarine orange cake. I am making another one today for my daughter to take to the lake for the 4th. I used red and black raspberries. Great cake.

Hot Shredded Chicken Sandwiches

Reviewed: Jul. 2, 2008
This IS an Ohio thing. I grew up on these sandwiches in the Newark area. Not all of Ohio has them. I didn't realize until after moveing around the country it is ONLY a central Ohio thing so I make these for my family. I do add garlic and onion powder with salt and pepper. Not ment to have a lot of spice flavor, just a good chicken flavor. Some places made theirs creamy (more soup, less crackers) others with less soup and crackers, less creamy.

Stuffed Green Peppers I

Reviewed: Feb. 1, 2008
I thought this was great. Only changes I made were to use rice o roni with vermicilli because as I went to the pantry for my rice I was out and saw the box. Worked very well. Also only had diced tomatoes with garlic and herbs and used what cheese I had in fridge. My husband even ate this and liked it. I used green, yellow and red peppers, Aldi specials.

Orange Cranberry Drops

Reviewed: Dec. 18, 2007
Cookie would be great as it is.changes I made was to use Smart Balance marg. and 1/2 cup wheat flour. I also used only 1/4 c white sugar and 1/2 c br. sugar. Another addition I made was to chop about 1/2 cup fresh cranberries in additon to the dried ones. Just trying to make it a little more healthy.

Spinach Dip with Water Chestnuts

Reviewed: Oct. 14, 2007
In a pinch when I don't have water chestnuts I have chopped a cucumber (deseeded) and used it. I like it just as much. Yes, a tad bit more sour cream than mayo and refrig overnight. Alwats a hit with my family. We like the potato rolls with it or Ritz crackers

Quick and Easy Alfredo Sauce

Reviewed: Jun. 29, 2007
Made this a few times with great results. Changed things a bit by melting butter and stirring in minced garlic and shallots, cooked 1-2 min then added frozen shrimp, cooked 2 min and removed shrimp. Made just like recipe called except grated a little nutmeg in. Cooked pasta, added shrimp to sauce then mixed with pasta. Salad, garlic bread, great. Hubby and father-in-law kept saying "good stuff". Quick and easy meal.

Pam's Bierocks

Reviewed: Feb. 21, 2007
My husband has been talking about these for years so I decided to try this recipe and am very glad I did. Followed fairly close to recipe but added some shredded carrots and a garlic clove or two with meat. Had extra dough so I patted it out rectangle, put a layer of butter on top, sprinkled br. sugar and cinn. on then rolled it up and sliced 1/2 in slices. put in buttered round pan and let rise 1 hr or so. 350 for 30 min. Made a vanilla glaze from this site and added some cinn to it also. Husband and son said it could use more of the Br. sugar cinn mix. Next time :)Great way to use up leftovers.

Uncooked Banana Pudding

Reviewed: Feb. 21, 2007
This is really good. Of course as I was getting ready to make it I realized I didn't have 2 boxes of vanilla pudding. I used one french vanilla and one white chocolate. I also replaced the sour cream with vanilla yogurt since I had some to use up.I used up what wafers I had (less than 1/2 box) and ground up some graham crackers to use with the layers ending with them on top. I also mix my bananas in pudding mix. Good next day too :)
