Potato and Chorizo Mini Quiches

Reviewed: Aug. 10, 2015
Have made this several time as written. It was very good. Now I have adjusted it slightly. I added a 4 ounce can of diced Jalapeno peppers. It gives it a nice kick. I have taken them to church functions and they are always the first to disappear. Will continue to make these. Note Spanish and Mexican Chorizo are different. Spanish is more the consistence of Pepperoni where Mexican is softer and tends to melt in the pan.

Easy Turkey Taco Soup

Reviewed: Nov. 24, 2014
Very good soup! I doubled the recipe and it was very spicy for my wife and some others who tried it. I then added 2 cans of tomato sauce and an extra can of chicken broth (like my soup with more broth). While it still had a little kick it was less spicy for those who did not like the heat. I am rating this on the original recipe, not the changes that were made. I think it is totally unfair to rate a recipe after changes have been made to the original. For my taste it was not overly spicy. Will definitely make again. Both versions were excellent.

Making Crispy Onion Rings

Reviewed: Oct. 17, 2014
Taste was good in the first couple of batches. After that could not get the batter to stick to the rings. May try again.

Southern Yank Pulled Pork BBQ

Reviewed: Oct. 17, 2014
Very good recipe. This is the first time I have made pulled pork in a slow cooker. Normally I make it in my smoker. I make a new recipe exactly as written, then if I feel changes should be made I do it on the next time I make it. I do not feel it is right to make changes then rate it with the changes made. With that said, I admit I made a change in making this recipe. I did not add the water and there was plenty of sauce. Will definitely use this recipe again. Thank you BarleyJack.

Debdoozie's Blue Ribbon Chili II

Reviewed: Oct. 6, 2014
Very good recipe as printed. First time made the chili I followed the recipe as directed. The second time I made changes that we like. I added chopped green pepper, reduced the tomato sauce by 1 can and subsutituted 1 can of Rotel Mexican style chopped tomatoes, also used one can of black beans instead of the light red kidney beans.

Melt-In-Your-Mouth Meat Loaf

Reviewed: Aug. 23, 2014
It was one of the better meat loafs I've had or made. The texture was good and it held together well. The mushrooms definitely add to the dish. We really enjoyed the sauce that was put over the top toward the end of the cooking time. I can see some additions to the meat loaf to make it your own. Such as Bell Peppers, Chopped carrots, Jalapeno peppers, the list goes on and on. Great job Nighthawk. Will definitely be on my repeat list.

Mexican Casserole II

Reviewed: Sep. 6, 2013
Very Good recipe with numerous possibilities. I took advise from some others and added Taco Seasoning to the hamburger as it cooked along with chopped onions. Along with the mushroom soup I added about 1/2 cup of sour cream, 1 tsp cumin, 1 tbs chili powder, 1/4 tsp basil, small can of green chiles, and a cup of frozen corn. Between the layers I added sliced black olives and on top. Next time I will replace the hamburger with chopped chicken breasts.

Carol's King Ranch Casserole

Reviewed: Sep. 6, 2013
Thought it was very good. Took it to a church potluck, came home with an empty dish. Alot of complements on it. I made one sllight change, I cooked the flour tortillas in a dry cast iron skillet first. That way they did not get mushy in the casserole. Other than that I made no changes to the recipe. First time I try a recipe I follows the directions exactly. How can you honestly rate a receipt that you have changed to fit your tastes.

Wisconsin Bratwurst

Reviewed: Jul. 9, 2013
I have used a variation of this recipe for years. This was the first time I used the butter, it was great. I will not enter the debate on boiling the brats then grilling or just grilling them or poking them or not. I love them all.

Asian Beef with Snow Peas

Reviewed: Jul. 9, 2013
I dislike it when people change the recipe then rate it. It is not a honest rating of the recipe. The first time I made this recipe I altered it slightly. I tripled the sauce my wife and I do not like plain dry rice. That extra sauce was just the right amount for us. I don't consider this changing the recipe, but a purist might. The second time I made it I did make additions to it. I added sliced green onions, sliced mushrooms and some shredded carrots and the additional sauce. We thought that this made the recipe even better. Very good basic recipe with lots of potential. Thank you MARBALET.

Dave's Low Country Boil

Reviewed: May 21, 2013
This was the first time I made a low country boil, although I have eaten them before. My biggest problem with this recipe is that it did not specify how much water to use. I used the amount listed in the Frogmore Stew recipe (6 quarts and 2 ounces of Old Bay). I also used some suggestions and put in two lemons halved and a large sweet onion quartered. Then cooked the potatoes, sausage, corn, crab and shrimp as per the recipe. This is suppost to feed 15, don't think so 8 of us ate almost all of the boil. This will be on my list of things to make for large gatherings. Thanks Lisa.

Slow Cooker Chicken Pot Pie Stew

Reviewed: May 21, 2013
I did what I normally do not do make changes to a recipe before I rate them. I only made half of what the recipe called for. I followed some recomendations and the video skipped the bouillon cubes, instead I used a can (10 ounces) of chicken broth. I used garlic powder not the garlic salt and celery seed instead of the celery salt. With that said I followed the rest of the recipe and it turned out very good. Will keep this recipe with the changes made.

Chinese Fried Noodles

Reviewed: May 6, 2013
This is a good basic recipe as is, but their are numerous ways to change and improve this recipe. I have used chicken, beef and pork in making this, at different times of course. You could add different types of vegies and sauces. Good job Karen.

Marie's Easy Slow Cooker Pot Roast

Reviewed: May 6, 2013
Very good recipe. I normally do rate recipes I have changed, but the only changes I made was to increase the amount of vegies and used beef broth instead of water. I used a 1 1/2 lb, bag of small Yukon Gold potatoes unpeeled. After the roast was done, iused the juices to make a great gravy.

Chicken and Bacon Shish Kabobs

Reviewed: Apr. 3, 2013
Very good basic recipe. Followed the directions as printed (don't believe in rating a recipe when changes have been made). I did as one rater suggested, boiled the bacon first and it cook beautifully and the chicken was not dried out. Next time I will add onions, maybe some green bell peppers and cherry tomatoes. Will definitely make again. Thanks Angie.

Slow Cooker Venison Stroganoff Meal

Reviewed: Mar. 8, 2013
It's a keeper! Will make again and again. I agree with the other raters about adding sour cream and fresh mushrooms. I added aboout 1/2 cup of sour cream mixed into the mushroom soup mixture and poured it over the venison. Took the stroganoff to a men's wildgame dinner and it was gone quickly.

Chili Seasoning Mix II

Reviewed: Dec. 29, 2012
Thought it was a very good seasoning mix. I admit that I did make one slight change (Iusually don't the first time I try a recipe). I took the advise from some reviewers and cut back on the flour, I used 2 tablespoons. The reason I used less floue is that I didn't want my chili thicken to much. I made enough to fill a large spice jar. That way I'll have it on hand when I make chili again and it won't be long. Thanks Sal.

Hamburgers with Mushroom Gravy

Reviewed: Oct. 18, 2012
Normally I follow the recipe exactly the first time to give an accurate rating. The only change I made to this recipe was adding two small cans of mushroom to the soup and beef broth mixture. I just felt that it needed more mushrooms. Had some problems with the patties falling apart, but other than that the dish was very tasty. The wife loved it and so now it will become a regular at our house.

Slow Cooker Beef Stew I

Reviewed: Oct. 9, 2012
Great recipe. I followed the recipe for the most part. I prefer to brown the meat before putting in the slow cooker. I think it gives better flavor and presentation. Also sauted the onions before putting in the cooker. Then deglazed the pan with some of the broth to get all the great flavors bits out of the pan. I also added some peas and corn to the stew. Will definately make again.
