Wonton Soup With A Kick

Reviewed: May 24, 2013
We love this easy recipe. My 13 year old makes it using a bag of frozen trader joe wontons. We cook the wontons right in the broth and just add a little extra broth. The recipe is very flexible and will come out ok even if your measurements are off a bit - perfect when hungry kids are cooking.

Chili Rubbed Pork Tenderloin With Apricot Ginger Glaze

Reviewed: May 7, 2012
If I make it again, I will leave out the cilantro. I thought the sauce was tastier without it. Also, I found this made much more sauce than we needed. All in all, nice, but I'll probably keep searching for a to die for pork tenderloin recipe. This was good but not 5 stars.

Sauteed Grouse with Peach-Balsamic Sauce

Reviewed: Jan. 29, 2012
We made this sauce to go with quail. We found the tarragon flavor to be rather pronounced and it overpowered the quail. Even though our quail came from a hunt, they were very mild, almost like chicken. Perhaps the tarragon flavor is better suited to birds with a more gamey flavor.

Margaret's Keftedes (Greek Meatballs)

Reviewed: Apr. 28, 2009
We really liked these meatballs. Based on other reviewers advice I cut the amount of egg in half. Also, I cut the amount of mint in half. My mint was home dried and strong. I served the meatballs on pita bread using the yogurt sauce recipe from the "warm greek pita sandwiches with cucumber yogurt sauce" recipe on this site. We will make this again! Thanks.

Flavorful Flank Steak

Reviewed: Nov. 29, 2008
We loved this simple recipe. I left out the liquid smoke and used green onions instead of the dried onions, because that was what I had on hand. I tossed a frozen london broil into the bag with the marinade and let it thaw & marinate overnight. After grilling I let the steak rest 10 minutes before using my electric knife to cut thin slices against the grain. I will make this again.

Slow Cooker Beef Stroganoff I

Reviewed: Jan. 25, 2008
We add baby carrots to the bottom of the slow cooker before adding the beef to make this a one dish meal for the kids. I also use red wine instead of water, add 1/2 packet of onion soup mix, use 2 pounds of beef, 2 cans of soup, add a dollop of sour cream and keep everything else the same. We love this recipe.

Black Bean Spread

Reviewed: Jan. 21, 2008
I followed the recipe except I used one can of drained and rinsed black beans. The garlic flavor was overwhelming. I would consider making this recipe again, but next time make with only one clove of garlic and taste before deciding whether I needed the second garlic clove.

Jeff's Chili Con Queso

Reviewed: Jan. 21, 2008
This came out fine, but I learned my family prefers Queso without chili. This had a strong chili flavor and they wanted the cheese dip associated with restaurants.

Marinated Grilled Shrimp

Reviewed: Sep. 29, 2007
We love this recipe and have made it several times. Our family likes it best when I leave out the salt and cayenne and substitute our favorite seafood seasoning, Old Bay, instead. I use 1 tsp of Old Bay in place of the the salt and cayenne. Also, ketchup does do in a pinch, but we like this dish better when made tomato sauce.

House Fried Rice

Reviewed: Apr. 14, 2007
Good, but it didn't taste like the local Chinese place. The sesame oil was liked by the adults but not the kids.

Creamy Au Gratin Potatoes

Reviewed: Apr. 14, 2007
This was yummy, but mine came out a little soupy, perhaps because I changed the number of servings on the recipe. Also, I think the recipe calls for large potatoes. If your are smaller, you may need more.

Awesome Sausage, Apple and Cranberry Stuffing

Reviewed: Nov. 25, 2006
This came out great. I used a whole loaf of the cheap, white sandwich bread. Used 1 and 1/2 times the amount of spices, celery and onions. I added more broth until it all looked moist plus a few squirts from the turkey baster and baked it in the oven at 350. Next time I will also add an egg to make it hold together better.

Shredded Brussels Sprouts

Reviewed: Nov. 25, 2006
We made this for Thanksgiving. I quartered the sprouts and left out the pine nuts. My sprouts were a bit bitter - the fault of the sprouts, not the recipe. I added a small splash of vinegar and this solved the bitterness problem. Since we are not fans of so much bacon in our vegies, I am giving this recipe a 4. Bacon lovers should consider this a 5.

Grilled Salmon II

Reviewed: Oct. 28, 2006
We love this with wild salmon. The marinade goes well the stronger taste of wild salmon. It's the only way my kids will eat wild or the darker red salmons. I make it with olive oil instead of the peanut oil, because I always have olive oil on hand.
