About this Cook
I'm married w/2 kids (girl 21, boy 6) (!!!), paralegal, organization consultant, enjoy arts and crafts, hiking, camping, antique hunting, reading, and cooking!
My favorite things to cook
Californian fusion (sautes, pastas, etc.). Am always looking for fast, healthy, lower-fat dishes. My family loves exploring foods using spices in new ways and new combinations.
My favorite family cooking traditions
Thanksgiving turkey using fresh pomegranate juice from our tree, and pomegranate mimosas for the holidays. Traditional pastries handed down from my great-grandmother and new holiday baking traditions I have started with my children. Most of all, I enjoy cooking with my daughter, and exploring new recipes together. My little guy loves to help bake and decorate cookies.
My cooking triumphs
Getting the oldest child to eat swiss chard mushrooms, and the youngest to eat spinach!!!
My cooking tragedies
Relatively few and far between, but spectacularly awful when they happen!!! There is also one cookie recipe, using boxed cake mix (!) that I simply can't get right. Go figure.

World's Best Scones! From Scotland to the Savoy to the U.S.
WAY too much baking powder; leaves a horrible bitter baking powder taste in your mouth.

Cinnamon Brownies
Best brownies I've ever made. I used chocolate chips instead of nuts, and added about 1/2 tsp of ancho chili for a "Mexican Chocolate" flavor. These rocked the bake sale!

Banana Sour Cream Bread
Great recipe. I followed the advice of other reviewers regarding cooking temp/time, and cooked 2 9x4 loaves for 75 minutes at 325. I note that the author used very small pans (7x3) which could account for the discrepancy in cooking temp/time. I added 1 Tbsp. spiced rum to the wet ingredients, and used a whole-grain baking mix instead of the flour, salt and baking soda. I added extra cinnamon, allspice and cloves to the dry ingredients. My loaves came out moist and delicious! Thank you for a great recipe!
