Whole Wheat Cut Out Cookies

Reviewed: Aug. 2, 2009
I ended up having to add an extra cup of flour because the dough was just too sticky. I also added a bit of salt because I enjoy the taste salt adds to a cookie. Taste was wonderful and wholesome. The toddlers I made them for gobbled them up! Next time I may try substituting applesause for part of the butter to make them even healthier.

Hawaiian Sweet Bread

Reviewed: Apr. 15, 2008
I'm so glad I found this recipe. We used it for bread bowls for soup. Amazing! My DH said it was better than hawaiian bread from the store. Next time I may decrease the ginger a tad but really, it is very good as is. We loved it!

Chocolate Muffins

These are so good. I made them for breakfast since they are called "muffins" but quickly realized that they are more like cup cakes. So addicting!

Big Smokey Burgers

Reviewed: Mar. 28, 2008
We LOVE this recipe and have even used it with ground turkey. I didn't follow the recipe exactly as I didn't have chipotle sauce or peppers. And, after the first time, I also decreased the liquid smoke to 1 tsp because it seemed to be a little strong. Amazing!

Light Oat Bread

Reviewed: Mar. 28, 2008
Didn't need all of the flour. Great texture and doesn't dry out like other breads I've made. The only complaint was lack of flavor. I may try adding honey and a little powdered milk next time.

General Tsao's Chicken

Reviewed: Jan. 20, 2008
This recipe has great flavor, my hubby loves it! However, I found that a few changes needed to be made. I double the sauce, but use only 1/4 cup cornstarch total, in the doubled sauce. I leave out the MSG as it isn't healthy and I like to add a vegetable. P.S. If you like this recipe but don't like the calories or fat, check out Szechwan Shrimp on this site. You can easily replace the shrimp with chicken and save yourself a load of fat and calories without losing much if any flavor.

Chili Verde

Reviewed: Jan. 20, 2008
I wanted to try this recipe but was short on time (well, I didn't have 8-10 hours) so I prepared the meat as directed but roasted it in the oven (in a covered dish. It took about 2 1/2 hours and was so tender and so delicious! A wonderful combination of flavors. Thanks for a great recipe!

These are so good and so healthy. My three year old asks to eat them all day long! And I don't have a problem saying yes! Wonderful low fat recipe.

Szechwan Shrimp

Reviewed: Jan. 20, 2008
This recipe had a similar taste to General Tsao's Chicken found on this site but was much healthier! The recipe is good as is! I have however, made it numerous times and have adjusted a few things to my liking. I like to double the sauce, decrease the hot peppers and only use 1 teaspoon of oil. I also have found that using uncooked, peeled and deveined shrimp gives the dish a much better taste. I just cook it in the oil until opaque before adding the sauce. I just tried adding pea pods at the end, just until heated through, which was a great asian compliment to the meal. We always serve it over botan rice. A wonderful low fat, low calorie meal!

Caramel-Filled Chocolate Cookies

Reviewed: Nov. 4, 2007
I made the dough following the directions minus the nuts and since I love peanut butter, I filled them with miniature PB cups (walmart's brand are THE best). I almost didn't get to try them they disappeared so fast! The cookie reminds me of a chewy brownie. Awesome!

Citrus Wassail

Reviewed: Oct. 28, 2007
This had a great flavor and made my house smell wonderful. The only drawback of this recipe is that it was a little too sweet for my taste (and I love sweet things). Next time I'll try leaving out the sugar and I'm sure it will be perfect.

Apple Carrot Muffins

Reviewed: Oct. 16, 2007
I made these this morning when my 3 year old asked for carrot muffins (he's learned that carrots help you see better so he always wants carrots:)) They are absolutely delicious! I love it when something that tastes this good is actually healthy too! I used 1/2 cup whole wheat flour and 3/4 cup unbleached white flour. Thanks for a wonderful recipe.

Smoked Salmon Sushi Roll

Reviewed: Oct. 6, 2007
Wonderful recipe! Our variation: We like to add 3 tablespoons brown sugar and 1 teaspoon salt to the rice vinegar and stir until dissolved. Then pour the mixuture over rice and mix well. This compliments the flavors of the sushi roll very well and makes the rices easier to handle.

These were too rich and buttery for me but the teenaged boys a made them for love them. They gobbled them up and asked for more. 3 stars for me 5 for them so 4 stars.

Clone of a Cinnabon

Reviewed: Oct. 6, 2007
O.K. this has replaced my favorite cinnamon roll recipe. Use korintje cassia cinnamon if you want it to taste just like a Cinnabon. Though often used interchangeably, cassia and cinnamon are not the same. Cinnamomum cassia (grown primarily in China and Indonesia) is reddish-brown and pungently sweet, while Cinnamomum zeylanicum (from Sri Lanka and India) is buff-colored and mild. Cassia is usually preferred for its more intense color and flavor. It contains more essential oils.

This is so good. Tastes just like the limonade at a Brazilian restaurant we love. We sometimes vary the recipe by using carbonated water for a fun bubbley kick. Mmmmm

Mama's Potato Salad

Reviewed: Oct. 6, 2007
Very good potato salad! Be sure to use real mayonaise...I tried light mayo the second time I made it and it ended up in the garbage. We also like to use onion powder in place of the onion. My husband has "texture issues" with some foods and didn't like the way the onion felt in his mouth.
