Best Black Beans

Reviewed: May 26, 2011
Delicious. I am going to add cumin next time (cause we love the stuff) but honestly this recipe needs no tweaking at all! (Okay, okay, I minced the onion and garlic instead of chopping it, but that's a personal textural preference.) Great stuff - a staple for our taco nights, for sure!

Cheesy Chicken Meatballs

Reviewed: May 24, 2011
Tasty and moist. Had to use light plain cream cheese (can't find the roasted garlic here). Also subbed olive oil for the vegetable and cut back on the garlic powder.

Green Smoothie

Delicious. Can't taste the kale flavor at all! Only change I made was to freeze the kale, too. Have also made it with coconut milk instead of milk and it's yummy that way, too.

Chocopeanutbanana Smoothie

Reviewed: Apr. 26, 2011
Sliced the banana and froze it to try and help keep it colder. Used splenda sweetened chocolate syrup and added a 1/4 tsp of vanilla, then chilled it before drinking. Filling and yummy, thanks!

Simple Sloppy Joes

Reviewed: Feb. 5, 2011
Very good. Added some mustard and hot sauce as per some of the reviews. Even better the second day. Will definitely make again.

Pumpkin Oatmeal

Reviewed: Feb. 2, 2011
Yum. Made with vanilla soy milk, pumpkin pie spice (instead of just cinnamon) and used splenda instead of the honey. Can't believe how creamy the pumpkin makes it!

Burly Burger

Yum. One of my eldest ds' favorite sandwiches - I enjoy it too but rarely indulge. :) I prefer mine on a roll but it's good on toasted bread, too.

Elbows and Ground Beef

Reviewed: Jan. 1, 2011
As other reviewers suggested, we used jarred spaghetti sauce instead of the tomato sauce for more flavor (and I agree, the tomato sauce alone would would have been rather bland). Delicious, wonderful comfort food. Will definitely make again. Editing to add: The leftovers are even better. :)

Chinese Pork Ribs

Reviewed: Dec. 6, 2010
Meat incredibly tender (the kids all inhaled the meat), but juices were discouragingly bland - disappointing, it smelled like it would taste fantastic. Maybe cooking them down might do it but I doubt I'll make it again.

Incredibly Cheesy Turkey Meatloaf

Reviewed: Nov. 29, 2010
Kids loved it, dh and I, not so much. Added garlic/onion powder and used less cheese due to all the comments about the mess.

Creamy Chicken and Wild Rice Soup

Reviewed: Oct. 29, 2010
As written, 4 stars. With adjustments, 5. I sauteed 1/2-3/4 cup each diced onion (1 small), celery (1 stalk) & carrot (2 small) and 2 cloves minced garlic in the butter (used 6 tbsp) then added the flour (1/2 cup) and 2% milk (not cream) as directed. Also, can't find "quick cooking" wild rice mix here so used regular - just cooked it in the full broth / water mixture called for in this recipe (omitted the margarine required on the box) until the rice was tender, then added in the chicken (about 1 lb) to heat through when it was cooked. Combined the milk/broth mixtures and finished as directed. Absolutely delicious.

Great Pumpkin Dessert

Reviewed: Oct. 24, 2010
This didn't turn out well. Like a couple of others have said, some of the cake mix stayed powdery, and the nuts were scorched. Maybe if I mix the butter and nuts into the cake mix and sprinkle it over the top it would work better? I want to love this, may try it again doing that. (Will edit my review if I do that.)

Cranberry Chicken I

Reviewed: Oct. 22, 2010
The boys loved it, dh, dd and I were all not thrilled with it (for various reasons - dh didn't like the pink color of the chicken and dd and I didn't love the flavor). Don't know if I'll attempt again. Disappointed, really wanted to *love* this one.

Ruth's Grandma's Pie Crust

Reviewed: Oct. 5, 2010
Excellent! I was worried - after mixing in the egg & water - that it was going to be too soft, and glue-y, but after chilling for an hour or so, it rolled out beautifully. I divvied it up into thirds (as per the other reviews), used two sections for an apple pie (Granny Ople's apple pie filling from this site is the BEST) and froze the third for another day ... for this pie crust challenged gal, this came out perfect, rave reviews from dh and the kids, and will be my go to pie crust recipe - no more refrigerated pie crusts in this house!!

Freeze-Easy Chocolate Shake

As per the other reviews I used half the milk and got a big thumbs up from my kids. Will definitely be making this again - simple is sometimes best. :)

Sausage Egg Puff

Reviewed: Sep. 13, 2010
Big hit with my kids. Easy and quick to throw together ... would lend itself really well to other things (like turkey bacon, or a veggie for a lunch type meal). Will definitely make again. Oh - and it doesn't have to sit overnight. I didn't even see the part about putting it in the fridge overnight and had planned it for supper, so it went straight in the oven - only needed about 40 minutes to cook that way.

Turkey Jambalaya

Reviewed: Sep. 13, 2010
Followed exactly except I did not have a bell pepper (will definitely add one next time) and I think there was too much rice. I will cut it back to 1 cup instead of 1 1/2 another time - it was way too dry. I will definitely make this again (dh said to not mess with the flavors any) but the rice was a total disaster.

Fluffy Pancakes

Sorry, we weren't fans. We *could* taste the vinegar. Next time I'll try the same recipe only using buttermilk in place of the sour milk (my preference anyway).

Roasted Red Potato Salad

Reviewed: Aug. 7, 2010
Wonderful. I added salt to the potatoes while they were baking. To change things up have added some caramelized onions (2-ish) to the dressing. Very, very good. We just used 2 eggs instead of 4.
