About this Cook
I'm 27 and single, and live with my cat Monty who is a little bit loopy, but keeps me amused. I live on the south coast of England
My favorite things to cook
Soups and stews are my speciality! They are particularly good on a cold winters night. My work colleagues are always interested to know what soup i am bringing in for lunch! Stews are great because you can make a big batch and have loads left over for tomorrow! I love to bake cakes and biscuits, but i'm on a diet and so i have to stay away from the temptation!!
My favorite family cooking traditions
My family doesn't really have any as such. But the time of the year stand out for my family. During BBQ season my extended family will get together, and my dad will have made his own burgers etc by the family method (lets see what we have in the store cupboard and then throw it in the mixture method!)and we will while away the sunny afternoon into the evening with good company, laughter and food. A good mixture i think!
My cooking triumphs
Not sure i have any sure fire hits or triumphs so far!
My cooking tragedies
My first attempt at making a chuntney. It was supposed to be green tomato chutney, but it ended up a black mess on the bottom of the pan! I've made chutneys since, but never tried green tomato again - i think i am going to have a glut of tomatoes in my garden this may be its time to give it another go. After all, if at first you don't succeed, try and try again!

Marinated Spicy Pork Chops
good base marinade. i didn't have garlic powder, so used fresh garlic, used sweet chilli sauce, and bottled lemon juice. All came out fine, i thought there would be far too much soy sauce, could be cut down a bit but actually, it was fine. My only complaint is that its quite thin, and this would have been great if it was slightly sticky. its a keeer though - my boyfriend loved it!

Marinade for Chicken
A great marinade. Second attempt i got it right - big tip make sure you give this time to marinade - i did mine for about 10 hours - and the difference was very noticeable. The only thing is that i would agree with a previous reviewer that its (just a tiny bit) sour, but the second time around i added a just a little honey...oh and a little minced fresh garlic. I didn't have the herbs suggested to hand so omitted, and also used ready made mustard as i didn't have any powdered, but still came out ok!! Will use again.

Lucy's Tomato and Peach Chutney
Great chutney recipe. Not as heavy and acidic as some chutneys can be. I have used this chutney with cold meats and also tried it with cheese in a sandwich as an experiment (worked really well!). I would reccomend however, letting this chutney sit in fridge for a while - i left mine for 3 months. All good chutneys need to mature. I found it too sour and vinegary when freshly made.
