Favorite Old Fashioned Gingerbread

Reviewed: Jan. 2, 2007
I so wanted this recipe to work. I have actually made it twice now. The last result was better than the first but still not good. The batter is fabulous! My daughter loved licking the bowl. I am not sure if I am doing something wrong but I am following the recipe to a T and getting a very dense gingerbread. The first time the cake went sad...I thought it had to be something that I had done, made it again it didn't look sad but it made me very sad to eat it! My husband is a huge fan of gingerbread and he even threw this out. Smells great, batter tastes great, cake is well below great.

Green Bean Casserole I

Reviewed: Jan. 2, 2007
I prepared this for a gathering at my house. Everyone really enjoyed it and went back for seconds. I did alter a little bit because in the rush of getting the dinner ready for everyone I forgot to prepare the stuffing. I added another layer of shredded cheese to the top of the green bean mixture in the casserole pan. Then topped it with a mixture of 1 tbs melted butter and crushed ritz crackers. It was fabulous! Thanks for the recipe!

Busy Day Chicken Rice Casserole

Reviewed: Jan. 2, 2007
Will make again! I used cream of chicken in place of cream of celery because it is what I had on hand. I also added 1 extra cup of water and mixed the onion soup mix in with the rice mixture as other reviewers had suggested. Next time I may reduce the onion soup mix to about a half a pack. My husband loved it but I generally find that onion soup mix is very strong. This turned out great, even my picky three year old ate it! Great recipe!

Turkey Bow Tie Skillet

Reviewed: Dec. 22, 2006
Even my husband, who is not a big fan of ground Turkey, loved this recipe! I did make a few alterations. I used olive oil seasoned with italian herbs to cook the turkey in, instead of veg oil. I used basil oregano seasoned diced tomatoes instead of plain stewed tomatoes. I used veggie macaroni noodles because that is what I had on hand. I left out the celery and green pepper. I cooked my pasta seperately without using the chicken broth. I added the cooked pasta to the turkey mixtured and simmered. It was very yummy! A definate keeper in my house! My husband said,"You have to make this again!" Thanks for the recipe!

Strawberries and Wine

Reviewed: Jul. 7, 2006
I enjoyed this recipe! I capped the strawberries and sliced them in half. I cut back on the sugar a little because the strawberries that I had were very sweet. I used a Kabinnett wine which is on the sweeter side as well. I marinated these strawberries for two days in the fridge. Only because I forgot them the day that I made them. The last day I added fresh blueberries and let them marinate for about 1 hour. I used the bisquick recipe for individual shortcakes and spooned the strawberry/blueberry mixture and a few spoons of the wine mixture over the cakes which I cut in half. A huge hit! They turned out beautifully and tasted fabulous too! I didn't have any whipped cream, but I am sure that a spoon full would have been great on top!

My Country Style Steak

Reviewed: Jul. 7, 2006
Great recipe, just too salty for me. I would suggest using low sodium onion soup, not adding salt, and using garlic powder instead of garlic salt. I just do not like a lot of salt. My husband thought the recipe was great though. I will be making this again and he can add his own salt after the fact! I also did not cut the cubed steak into bite size pieces.

Jezebel Sauce

Reviewed: Jul. 7, 2006
I followed the recipe to a T. I served this over cream cheese at a small gathering at my house. Most people were scared of it, not knowing what it was so they wouldn't try it. I tried it without the cheese and it had a completely different taste. The cream cheese really sets it off! It is a different mix of flavors that is a nice change. The recipe made ALOT. Next time I will downsize the recipe and serve it to a more adventurous crowd. Thanks for sharing!

Chocolate Chip Crispies

Reviewed: Jul. 7, 2006
Very quick and easy! I used other reviewers suggestions and layered the crispy mixture with the chocolate chips between. I took this to my daughters pre-school family day and they all dissappeared! Everyone loved them! They were a little too rich for my taste but I will definatley make this again for a crowd.

Crispy Rice Cereal Balls

Reviewed: Jul. 7, 2006
Tasty and addictive! I orginal plan was to make this recipe for family day at my daughters pre-school. I decided not to take them because they just weren't very attractive and I didn't think they would stand up to the heat (outdoor thing) very well. I put them in the freezer and they freeze very well. They are actually very yummy frozen.

My family loved this recipe. I served it over gingerbread cake and it was wonderful. The consistancy was a little more runny than what I expected but overall it was great! Thanks for a great recipe!

Healthy Turkey Loaf

Reviewed: Jun. 22, 2006
This was my first attempt at a turkey loaf. I wasn't really sure what to expect. I had 1lb of ground turkey so I doubled the recipe. I made my own salsa from vegetables from the farmers market. I did not have any dried bread crumbs or the time to make my own so I used crushed crakers instead. I had read the other reviews about the not so great appearance of the loaf so I layered the top with sliced tomato. I adjusted the time since the recipe was doubled and used a meat therm. to make sure it reached at least 165 degrees. I wasn't really impressed with the texture of the loaf, very mushy, but I am sure that was because I didn't use the bread crumbs or I didn't add enough crushed crakers. Overall the flavor was great. My picky three year old and extremely picky husband loved it. I will make the recipe again but I will be sure to adjust for the texture.

Lighter Banana Muffins

Reviewed: Feb. 28, 2006
I just tried one of these muffins and they are great! After reading the reviews I did make a few alterations, which is why I gave it 4 stars and not 5. I used 4 bananas instead of 3, 1/2 cup wheat flour, 1 tsp cinnamon, 1/2 tsp imitation butter flavoring, 1 tsp vanilla, 4 oz unsweetened applesauce, and 1/4 tsp ginger. This made 12 beautiful muffins for me. I will be making these again and I may increase the cinnamon, butter flavoring, and ginger just a little to get a more spicey flavor. Although these came out perfect and moist! Thanks for sharing a great starter recipe!

Mexican Chicken Kiev

Reviewed: Feb. 27, 2006
This was a hit in my house. I did not use Italian bread crumbs since I did not have any. I just made my own. I added red pepper to the crumbs along with the salt and pepper. The crust on the outside was wonderful. I used Monterey Jack cheese and did not add the chili's, my husband does not like things too spicy. It turned out great. We will be trying this again! Thanks for sharing!

Annie's Fruit Salsa and Cinnamon Chips

Reviewed: Dec. 5, 2005
I love this recipe and so does everyone I make it for. I follow the directions and it turns out wonderful everytime! When I bake the tortillas I cut them into wedges with a pizza cutter and arrange them in muffin pans. If you push them down in the pan or align them in the curve of the muffin pan it gives the chips the curved look. I bake the chips until they are brown which may take a little longer than 8 to 10 minutes. Overall this is a great easy recipe that everyone who enjoys fruit will love!

Chicken Enchiladas I

Reviewed: Dec. 10, 2003
This recipe was great! I did not add the water because I thought it would be too soupy. It turned out great. In fact, I doubled the recipe and threw some in the freezer. I hope it freezes well!

Chicken Marsala

Reviewed: Nov. 5, 2003
I tried this recipe when I was having 8 people over for dinner so I doubled it. There were no leftovers! Everyone loved it! It was very quick and easy. I accidently used self rising flour instead of all purpose and it still turned out great. Next time I will use the right flour and I know it will be even better! I also cut the chicken in small pieces. This is now a favorite in my household! Thanks for sharing!

Simple Tiramisu

Reviewed: Sep. 25, 2003
This was a hit in my household! I did alter the recipe a little. I used french vanilla coolwhip instead of regular coolwhip. I used a shot less water and used one shot of kaluha to mix the 2/3 cup of strong coffee. It turned out wonderful! I will certainly make this again! Thanks for sharing this wonderful recipe Nancy B!
