Sweet Potato and Black Bean Chili

Reviewed: Dec. 7, 2014
This was so good. I don't normally like sweet potatoes and was looking for a way to use some up; my boyfriend couldn't believe I served him a meal without meat but even he admitted it was "decent." I didn't have ancho chile powder so left it out, I added more cayenne because it did need a bit more spice.

Marinated Veggies

Reviewed: Jul. 10, 2011
Delicious! I added honey as other reviewers suggested. The flavor of the veggies came through enhanced by this slightly sweet, slightly salty marinade.

Crazy Chicken Marinade Grilled Chicken

Reviewed: Jul. 10, 2011
Delicious! I only had ground sage, so I used half of what was called for, and also added garlic powder. Outstanding flavor, I love the lime and chili combo.

Peach Muffins

Reviewed: Aug. 28, 2011
Yum! I used 3 ripe peaches chopped, subbed brown sugar for 1 cup of the white, applesauce for half of the oil, and baked it as two loaves of bread. The peach flavor is subtle, but I like the chunks of fruit in the bread. Good way to use up ripe peaches, if you like breakfast breads/muffins! And I had no problem with mine being dry.

Carrots in Dill Butter

Reviewed: Sep. 29, 2011
Very tasty... I'm not usually a fan of cooked carrots, but the butter+dill really meshed perfectly. Not all of the water was absorbed by the time the carrots were done, but it didn't seem to affect the taste.

Modenese Pork Chops

Reviewed: Jan. 15, 2012
This is a fantastic recipe! I love the flavor. I usually end up adding a little more white wine half way through so that there's more sauce left at the end. Otherwise, I don't change a thing.

Pumpkin Bean Soup

Reviewed: Feb. 4, 2012
This is really yummy! I followed the recipe exactly, using sour cream as the garnish, and I found the spices just right. I definitely recommend adding the sour cream, it's the perfect extra flavor.

Pollo Fajitas

Reviewed: Mar. 13, 2012
I wasn't sure about the ingredients, but this was actually quite good. I was missing some flavor, but I think that's mostly because I should have let it marinate longer than 30 minutes, and I forgot the lemon juice at the end. I'll try those next time, and that may tip it from pretty good to great. I used 1 lb chicken and removed from skillet to cook the veggies (1 red+1 green pepper + 1 onion), and tossed the chicken back in at the end - the amount of sauce was perfect.

Big Soft Ginger Cookies

Reviewed: May 23, 2012
Love these! Great gingerbread taste. As other reviewers have recommended, I substitute orange juice or orange liquer for the water, and letting the mix sit in the fridge before rolling helps with the stickiness. And I put the sugar into mug so I can plop in the dough ball, roll it around, and pick it up easily. I used these in place of gingersnaps in another recipe on this site, Grilled Peaches with Gingersnaps (and ice cream!), perfect.

Chocolate Glaze I

Reviewed: Aug. 30, 2012
Simple and perfect! I used this to top the Mexican Brownies recipe from this site, which wasn't quite sweet enough for my taste, and this was just the right amount of glaze. It tasted great and set up nicely on top of the brownies.

Missy's Candied Walnut Gorgonzola Salad

Reviewed: Sep. 18, 2012
Delicious! My first time making candied nuts, next time I'll start melting the sugar and then toss the nuts in, instead of adding them at the same time. I had problems with clumps of sugar sticking to the nuts and not melting. And this salad doesn't keep well, so you should put it all together within an hour of serving and be prepared to toss it after a few hours out.

Strawberry Bread

Reviewed: Jul. 4, 2011
I took some other reviewers suggestions to halve the cinnamon, reduce the oil a bit, and add 1 tsp of vanilla and more strawberries. I was worried about the dough, it was thick and looked more like cookie dough than the bread dough I'm used to. It also took about one hour to cook in my oven. But the end result is delicious!

Baked Soy Lemon Chops

Reviewed: Sep. 19, 2012
Delicious! Best served with a little bit of sauce drizzled over it - but not too much, because the sauce is salty even with low-sodium soy sauce. But they are so easy and yummy!

World's Best Lasagna

Reviewed: Nov. 21, 2013
LOVE this recipe. It's very customizable too; I usually make a three-layer lasagna, I always use shredded mozzarella instead of slices, and I love add-ins like mushrooms for the meat sauce. Making your own sauce does take extra time and honestly you could use canned sauce and get a perfectly good result. But it's not that hard to get it on the stove and check it occasionally if I'm doing other chores around the kitchen anyway. It's important to use the sweet Italian sausage to get the best flavor. I hate pre-boiling the noodles, so I usually either soak the noodles in hot tap water for a few minutes or don't cook them at all, leave the sauce a little watery, then build the lasagna and stick it in the fridge overnight for the noodles to absorb moisture and soften up. Then I cook it for dinner the next day!

Parmesan Asparagus

Reviewed: Jan. 21, 2013
This is pretty much the only way I eat asparagus now. Except instead of the oven, I just wash and trim the asparagus and put it in the steamer. When it's done I sprinkle and toss with olive oil, then add the garlic salt and parmesan. Yum!

Delectable Marinated Chicken

Reviewed: Feb. 9, 2013
I thought this was good, and my boyfriend loved it - went back for seconds and thirds! I didn't have the sesame seeds, so I skipped that, and I didn't have garlic pepper so I used lemon pepper instead. In hindsight, I probably should have used garlic powder and regular pepper, but I wasn't thinking! Thanks for the great marinade.

Garlic Green Beans

Reviewed: Feb. 24, 2013
These were really delicious. I only used 1 Tbs butter and about 1 Tbs olive oil. Next time I won't cook the garlic as long before putting in the green beans, the garlic got a little too brown. The melty Parmesan sent it over the top!

French Breakfast Puffs

Reviewed: Mar. 10, 2013
These were delicious, like cinnamon-sugar donuts in muffin form! I did spice up the batter, I was worried it would be too bland - I added 1/4 tsp cinnamon and 1 tsp vanilla, and for the nutmeg I used freshly grated nutmeg and didn't measure how much I put in, but it was probably about 1/2 tsp. I also subbed butter for the shortening. It smelled delicious coming out of the oven; I baked for 25 mins, which gave a nice all-around crust but left the inside with a nice crumb. Then I dipped the top in butter but rolled the whole muffin in the cinnamon/sugar mix; it stuck all over the muffin even without the butter. The topping amounts given are way too much for 12 regular size muffins; I would cut them in half (3 Tbs melted butter, 1/4 cup sugar, and 1 tsp cinnamon). It was very sweet, like a donut; best for when you're having people over so you don't eat them all yourself!

Mrs. Sigg's Snickerdoodles

Reviewed: Mar. 17, 2013
Love these cookies, perfect snickerdoodle flavor, crispy outside and chewy inside. Easy and always delicious, I don't have to change a thing! EDIT Mar 2014: well, I had my first failure with these cookies, and I think it was because I used my brand new mixer to do the creaming. I must have over-creamed; the dough was horribly sticky, even after 15 mins refrigeration, and in the oven the cookies flattened out like crackers! So from now on, hand-mixing for me!

Slow Cooker Cilantro Lime Chicken

Reviewed: Apr. 14, 2013
I love this recipe! It's so easy and tasty, my two favorites :) I have a tiny crock pot, so I just use one chicken breast and eyeball the ingredients. It cooks perfectly in 4 hrs. I've tried different salsas, and in the future I'll probably play with the seasonings too. I use the shredded meat for chicken tacos/burritos; it's delicious, tender and juicy.
