About this Cook
I live in Maine, having lived here for the past 4 years. I've been cooking since I moved out of my parents house when I was 18 year old. It started by filling a need to eat but has slowly evolved into a passion for food. I love trying new foods and have really started to challenge myself with new cooking techniques. I love Allrecipes.com as this provides such a vast source of recipes to choose from and to grow with.
My favorite things to cook
Ethnic Foods, Baked Goods, Candies, Tasty Dinners.
My favorite family cooking traditions
My family didn't do much in the way of cooking together. I remember from pretty early on that I saw a passion in my father when he would cook, though that wasn't very often. I remember my grandmother would always make and decorate the grandchildrens birthday cakes when we were younger. They were always beautiful cakes. I've become passionate about cake decorating probably due to her influence.
My cooking triumphs
Every time I make a potluck dish to bring into work and people actually ask for the recipe. That makes me feel good about what I've accomplished.
My cooking tragedies
I really can't think of any tragedies. I'm sure I've burned things and I've had to throw some things out because they were indeible, but they were learning experiences, not tragedies.

Vegan Lasagna I
This was a delicious recipe. I loved how easy it was to modify. I brought the recipe down to 4 servings on the calculator and used an 8x8 glass dish to bake. I found that with an 8x8 pan I only used 6 lasagna noodles and had 3 layers of noodles. It was very easy to cut, slicing right down the space between the noodles and the cutting in half, forming 6 large servings (not 4 like the calculator says). It's very easy to taste as you go, adding more of whatever your tastes are. I added a tsp. of garlic powder to the tofu mixture because we love garlic. I probably added more of the basil and parsley, simply because I hate measuring fresh herbs. :) The sauce was delicious and this will become a staple for the weekends. I let the sauce simmer while I was readying the tofu, pasta, setting the table ect. I did not cover mine with aluminum foil and there was no boil over, even though my pan was maxed out. I turned it around in the over 1/2 way through the 30 minute cooking time. I will increase to 35 mintues next time due to the thickness of my layers. I recommend this recipe for those who want to impress someone with a vegan lasagna. Heavenly goodness. Thanks for a great recipe.

Downeast Maine Pumpkin Bread
Very tasty. I made 14 muffins by halving the recipe. Baked at 350* for 25 mintues to perfection. If you make muffins, don't use cupcake holders and you will get a crisp edge on the cupcake and a soft warm center. Just be sure to spray your pan if you don't use the cups. The 2nd day around the tops were very wet. Moist cupcakes, with no need for frosting. They only lasted 4 days in our house. Each day getting a little more moist. Best bet would be to bake them the day you plan to serve a gathering or large family.

Robin's Sweet and Spicy Black Beans
We make this dish a couple of times per month. Very simple and very flavorful. Ingredients are always on hand. Sometimes we serves over a cooked bag of Success Brown Rice though it's fine alone too.
