George Washington Chocolate Cake

This is very similar to a recipe that I had years ago, and then had lost. I was happy to find this. The cake has a rich flavor and great texture.

This recipe was delicious! Everybody in the family loved it, even my daughter who doesn't like lima beans. I didn't have bacon, so I cut a small ham steak into small cubes, and browned them first. I put one clove of garlic in, based on other reader reviews. Also, I cooked it in a pot on the stove top, because I started in the afternoon. It was ready in 1 1/2 to 2 hours. I'm surprised that some people found it lacking in flavor. The flavors of the vegetables, meat and seasonings really came out after cooking a while. Really good.

Bottom Round Roast with Onion Gravy

This was really good, with dark, rich gravy. I had to make some adjustments, though. I put a tiny bit of oil under the onions, and after the meat had browned good on all sides to make the "brown bits", I added at least 2 cups of water for the roast to simmer in. Since it's a bottom round, I wanted to be sure it was tender.

The Old Boy's Strawberry Pie

This pie was delicious. When it was cooling on the counter, I couldn't help going over to deeply inhale the wonderful aromas coming off of it. My strawberries were sweet and this pie was just right.
