Vanilla Apricot Pears
superb!
About this Cook
I am happily married to my high school sweet heart. We have two little girls. I work part time and so i am trying to get better at meal planning and being more efficient in the kitchen. I also try and let my girls "help" me in the kitchen regularly. That takes a lot of patience, but they love it. I'm grateful that God made so many wonderful flavors for us to enjoy!
My favorite things to cook
I love to bake. I also love garlic, basil, sauteed onions, mushrooms, feta, homemade bread, bell peppers. Yummy gluten free foods that actually taste good for my husband! (believe me, a real success when we're talking about baked goods!)
My favorite family cooking traditions
Cinnamon rolls on Christmas morning, which now i am responsible for making (due to the popularity of the clone cinnabon recipe from this site). Special saturday morning breakfasts with my girls since i'm home on the weekends with them.
My cooking triumphs
finding good gluten free recipes now that my husband is trying to avoid wheat for his health. I love to cook for other people, so my biggest triumphs are when others rave about something i've made or tell other people that i'm a good cook!
My cooking tragedies
When i first got married i used to make the same thing every week. I hadn't started using this web site or gained confidence as a cook. Now we still have our favorites, but i love finding new recipes to vary it up!

Roasted Brussels Sprouts
wow, these were so good! my husband and i loved them. i usually just pan fry brussel spouts (after cutting in half and blanching for a min in the microwave) to get them a little cruchy, but wow, roasted in the oven is now going to be the way i do it. Especially now that summer is coming to an end and i can stand to have my oven on! i did turn up the temp a little to speed it up. also the little leaves that fell off and got brown and crispy were like little chips... i'd like to try making a whole batch of just the chips sometime, they were so good!

Pumpkin Maple Pie Supreme
this was a great pie. i needed to keep the filling dairy free so i used Coconut milk instead of the half and half. It was great, there wasn't a strong coconut flavor, it still seemed like a classic pumpkin pie. my guests loved it. Personally, i always think pumpkin pie needs more crust (the best part of a pie!) so i cut out some leaves with extra pie crust and decorated the top of the pie. Very pretty!

Flambeed Vanilla-Poached Pears with Apricot Sauce
wow, this was excellent! my guests really enjoyed it. I've made it twice now. first time i served it with vanilla icecream and shortbread/buscuits because i thought the dessert needed something. But the second time we just ate it with ice cream. I will definetly be making this again. Even though i don't like pears too much this was very good.
