Zesty Slow Cooker Chicken Barbecue

Reviewed: Jan. 3, 2008
5 stars for being so easy! I didn't have boneless, skinless breasts so I used bone-in chicken breasts instead. The chicken tasted great for such a simple recipe. I will make again as an easy week-night dinner.

Italian Sausage Soup

Reviewed: Jan. 3, 2008
This soup was easy to make and delicious. You can change it up a little and use this as your base recipe, as other reviewers have done. I added basil ansd oregano and used fresh spinach. I added carrots, and since I didn't have the white beans I added some sheese tortellini pasta instead. I also used extra broth and canned tomatoes. Thank you for the recipe!!

Mini Cheesecakes I

Reviewed: Dec. 26, 2007
I couldn't find the mini cupcake liners so I made in the regular size cupcake baking tins. The cheesecakes turned out delicious, but I had a really hard time getting them out of the cupcake tin - several fell apart and were kind of messy. But once I got the hang of it I salvaged the rest. Received lots of compliments!! I will make in the mini ones next time!

Lisa's Chocolate Chocolate Chip Cake

Reviewed: Dec. 26, 2007
This was a very good choclate bundt cake. I made with regular size chocolate chips because it's what I had on hand. I will make again with the mini chips next time. I also frosted with some buttercream chocolate frosting topped with red sprinkles because I served it at a Christmas party. Several family members have requested I make this cake again. Thank you for the recipe!

Thank yor for the delicious recipe - I would never have thought to combine those ingredients. I served at Christmas dinner and doubled the recipe. It was easy to make and loved by everyone.

Luscious Slush Punch

Reviewed: Dec. 26, 2007
Wow! I made this the day ahead and froze it in two large gallon size ziploc bags (doubled for leak protection). It was a little hard to get in the bags but worth the effort. Then I froze overnight and served the next day for Christmas, adding the lemon-lime soda. Every drop was gone! Very yummy. I did add a little more lemon-lime soda to keep it from being too slushy. My son has already requested this again for a party with friends. Thank you for the recipe!

Triple-Cheese Macaroni

Reviewed: Dec. 26, 2007
I made this for a Christmas dinner party and received rave reviews. It made a large casserole, and every bite was gone! My macaroni was not too runny at all. It turned out perfect. My friend and daughter tried it right out of the oven and pronounced it delicious. Then I served it the next day for Christmas by gently reheating in a low oven. I did add about 1/2 cup milk mixed with melted Velvetta cheese to the leftovers before reheating to keep it extra creamy. Like I said, not one single bite was left (and I was looking forward to the leftovers!!). Thank you for the recipe - I will definitely make again!!

Easy Turkey Tetrazzini

Reviewed: Dec. 6, 2007
Very tasty use of leftover turkey. I substituted fresh mushrooms, and used cream of mushroom soup with some celery salt because that is what I had on hand. I also added some sauted onions, and some extra parmesan cheese. Thank you for the recipe.

Cranberry Hootycreeks

Reviewed: Dec. 6, 2007
Five stars for sure!! I made the recipe in Mason jars (a very pretty presentation - I added a festive notecard and christmas ribbon). I also baked a double batch to taste test from two jars I had made. They were very yummy. Like other reviewers noted, even if your not a cranberry fan, it's hard not to like these cookies. I used Craisins that I bought in bulk at a warehouse store. I also used a generous 1/2 cup portion for the cranberry and white chocolate chips. This goes on my Christmas keeper list!!

Molasses Sugar Cookies

Reviewed: Dec. 6, 2007
These Molasses Cookies were very good and easy to make. A little crunchy on the outside and nice and chewy on the inside. I rolled in green and red colored sugar for Christmas, and will add this to my Christmas Cookie Recipe Collection. My children liked these cookies - I didn't think they would like molasses but they both said "yummy." I am making ahead and freezing for the holiday.

Cream of Broccoli Soup I

Reviewed: Oct. 14, 2007
I made this recipe using chicken/vegy stock instead of water and omitted the chicken bouillion. As per another reviewer's suggestion, I used 1% milk to cut down on the fat. I did add 1/4 cup half-n-half with some corn starch in it at the end to thicken up the soup and add a little richness. overall, we all liked this recipe, especially with grated, melted cheese on top - that made it tasty! Per personal preference, I thought it was a bit too much nutmeg - will only use about 1/2 the amount called for next time. Thank you for the recipe - both my kids got in a serving of broccoli this way!!

Kelsey's Favorite Stuffed Green Peppers

Reviewed: Oct. 9, 2007
We all enjoyed this recipe, even my 6 and 13 year old children. I did make a few changes to make it healthier: I substituted a ground vegetable beef mix for half the ground beef (no one in the family even notices). I used red, yellow and orange peppers instead of green. I used fresh garlic (crushed and sauteed with the beef mixture) in place of powder. I added 1 tsp. Worcester sauce. And I used a shredded light cheese mox instead of straigh mozzarella. Hope these ideas are helpful!! Thank you for the recipe.

Lentil Soup II

Reviewed: Oct. 9, 2007
I give this 5 stars because it's easy, healthy and my 6 yr old and 13 yr old both liked it enough for "healthy" soup they eat it!! Per other suggestions, I used vegy broth instead of beef, I finely chopped up two carrots and added when I put the lentils in, and I doubled the amount of tomato sauce and didn't add it until the very end. Thank you for the recipe - I am adding to my recipe box!!

Delicious Pumpkin Bread

Reviewed: Sep. 11, 2007
I added a bag of semi-sweet chocolate chips... very yummy and a big hit. I did use half whole wheat and half white flour and substituted applesauce for half the oil called for. I do this in almost all my baked goods, and still get rave reviews. Thank you for the recipe - I'm adding it to my recipe box!

Sweet and Sour Pork III

Reviewed: Aug. 28, 2007
I marinated the pork overnight and the meat was very tender. I added some extra colorful vegetables - red bell pepper, carrot and sugar sanp peas. I also doubled the sauce. With all that said, my family did not care for this. I felt it was way too greasy and heavy, and I did cut back a bit on both the oil and the sugar. The flavor of the sauce was good - just too much fat and oily taste. We will try a different, healthier pork recipe.

Tortellini Soup I

Reviewed: Aug. 21, 2007
I tweaked this a bit. I used homemade chicken broth and omitted wine and used a combination of red, yellow and orange peppers. Those were the ingredients I had on hand. I also doubled the recipe and added a bit more tomatoe sauce and broth. My husband and I really liked, but the kids didn't like the chunky vegies. (I had pureed some vegies in the chciken broth already - sneaky way to get kids to eat vegies!)I would definitely make for a potluck or family gathering. I was able to freeze two containers. Thank you for the recipe!

Chuck's Favorite Mac and Cheese

I made this for a bar-b-que and received lots of compliments. Most importantly, my kids loved it so will make again. I did skip the bread crumbs per a few other reviewers suggestions. Thanks for the recipe!!

Spinach Bacon Quiche

Reviewed: Jun. 19, 2007
We all enjoyed this quiche dish. I thought 400 sounded too high so I baked my quiche at 375 until done. I used 3 eggs and two egg whites. It was just slightly soft in the middle, so next time I might modify with a little less milk and a bit more cheese. Thank you for the recipe!!

Gramma Bertha's Banana Cake

Reviewed: May 28, 2007
Definitely five stars! I served at a bar-b-que (with cream cheese frosting) and everyone loved it! I doubled the recipe and also made muffins. I also added walnuts and baked at 325 degrees until done (that way it's a nice golden brown on outside and done in the middle without burning). Thank you for sharing your Gramma's recipe! Does she have any other special recipes to share??
