Daddy and Macalaigh
Mommy's Babies
About this Cook
I am a new mommy to a beautiful little girl, Macalaigh. My husband and I are stationed in Germany, but at the moment he is deployed. I love living in Germany (except when it snows). The food over here is interesting. I love the bakeries downtown and am absolutely obsessed with Doner Kebaps. Sometimes I like to go to the Germany grocery stores and pick stuff out that I may not know, but that looks good! Trial and error, baby!
My favorite things to cook
I love making breads! I think some of the best I have made have been the Lemon Blueberry bread and Coffee Date Bread. I love making desserts, all kinds. I believe that most everything you pay for at a restaraunt can be made at home for less money and better quality.
My favorite family cooking traditions
My Granny always makes these awesome oatmeal raisin cookies. Every year on my birthday she makes this wonderful chocolate puddin pie. Too Good! My mom is known for her Wassail at Christmas and my dad can throw down with pizza and manicotti. He slow cooks his spagetti sauce all day long, it can't be beat!
My cooking triumphs
I made my first lasagna from scratch (including sauce) when I was 15. It was a hit! Once I made a French onion soup and it was so much better than my mothers that she did not speak to me for a couple of days. Any time I master a new recipe is a good day.
My cooking tragedies
One time, when there was not much in the cupboard, I decided to make a goulash type thing. Well, I had the best intentions. To this day my husband always reminds me of the day I made "Pigslop".

Fried Cabbage II
Great recipe! I used some bacon drippings and turkey bacon for the actual meat. It was really tasty! Will definitely add this to my regular rotation!

Egg Custard Pie I
The taste was ok, but the consistency left something to be desired. I have made egg custard many times, and every recipe I know uses scalded milk and a pie shell. This recipe seemed simple so I thought I would give it a try. The body of the custard was gooey, almost lumpy and there was excess liquid around the outside of it. The taste was pretty good, although I think the evaporated milk covered up that good egg flavor somewhat. I think I'll just stick to my grandmother's old fashioned egg custard recipe.

Better Than Pumpkin Pie
Wow. I really wanted a pumpkin pie, but I like them made from fresh pumpkin and they were all sold out here. This was fantastic. I followed the recipe exactly with the exception of doing the squash in the oven. I think next time I'll just follow ALL of the directions and boil it. Either way, this is a fantastic pie and well worth the trouble. After this, you'll never eat an autumn time pie out of a can again! Thank you so much for this wonderful recipe!!
