Spinach and Strawberry Salad

Reviewed: Jun. 22, 2012
This salad is amazing! I used 1/4 cup agave in place of the white sugar and a mix of 1/4 c extra virgin olive oil and 1/4 c canola oil in place of the vegetable oil. I didn't have any white wine vinegar, so I used apple cider vinegar instead as I had it on hand. Also I had a bag of slivered almonds in the pantry, so I toasted some and topped the salad with them. I noticed one reader mentioned that when she put the dressing in the fridge it hardened to a paste - I have experienced that myself when I have used only extra virgin olive oil in dressings ( it is so annoying!) but didn't have any issues with the lend of half canola half evoo, stayed nice and liquidy after being in the fridge overnight.

Black Bean and Salsa Soup

Reviewed: May 28, 2012
Surprisingly delicious and soo easy to make! The soup was a little thinner than I liked when it came out of the food processor, but adding 1/2 tbsp of cornstarch dissolved with water to the soup when heating up did the trick! I take it to work I'm a thermos for a cheap and filling lunch.

Hash Brown Casserole II

Reviewed: Mar. 20, 2011
This is a great recipe. I make it with just a couple of adjustments. I have found it is just as good without the 3/4 cup butter, so I leave that out and I also do not top with cornflakes, because I don't care for the texture they give to the dish. Thanks for posting!

Cocktail Meatballs

Reviewed: Mar. 20, 2011
This is very similar to a recipe my mother in law gave me, in her's the meatballs were made with cornflakes, ketchup, parsley and few other things. This is easier and just as delicious. I always eat for dinner with a cheesy hash brown casserole (like hash brown casserole II on this site) and veggies. The leftovers heat quite well and are delicious!

Super Sausage Gravy

Reviewed: Mar. 20, 2011
This is amazing. I used to make sausage gravy with half and half, which is amazing, but soooo bad for you. This is a good compromise. I like mine spicy, so I usually add cayenne pepper to taste-delish!

Spanish Rice II

Reviewed: Feb. 7, 2011
This is a fabulous recipe...there was a power outage last winter and I made this recipe on the gas stove (thank goodness for gas stoves!) as I had everything on hand. I also popped open a can of store bought refried beans, thinned them out with a little water, re-seasoned them and served on top of this rice with a little monterey jack cheese...simple and satisfying...Thank you for posting!

Pesto and PHILLY Light Crostini

Reviewed: Feb. 7, 2011
I actually first came across this recipe in an issue of food & family magazine that my MIL gave me. I used store bought pesto (because I am too lazy to make my own) and it turned out great! This is simple and delicious appetizer or snack.

Black Bean Quesadillas

Reviewed: Feb. 7, 2011
This is a great recipe - I did make a couple of miniscule changes though...I used the fat free refried beans recipe from this site with a couple of tweaks(as listed in my comment) and just layered with store bought salsa and cheddar cheese and served with sour cream...it is a fabulous, healthy and super fast dinner or lunch! Thank you so much for posting!

Debdoozie's Blue Ribbon Chili

Reviewed: Feb. 7, 2011
I made this last night for the Superbowl, and it was the most amazing bowl of chili I have ever had in my life! I made a half batch of this with 1lb of beef (it was all I had in the freezer) and used the Chili seasoning mix II from this site (amazing!). I used 1 can of vegetarian baked beans instead of kidney beans, because I like the texture of them better, and added about 1/2 a bottle of dark-ish beer. This chili has a great kick to it, I didn't even have to add Cayenne. Once it was cooked just topped it with a little extra sharp cheddar and I was in game-day heaven. Thank you sooo much for posting, this is definately going to be a weekly dish for me and hubby!

Chili Seasoning Mix II

Reviewed: Feb. 7, 2011
I will never buy a packet of chili mix again. I was skeptical when I saw the ingredients and decided to take a chance, since it had so many great reviews. I left out the flour, sugar and salt. My chili did not need the flour or sugar, but I did season with salt to taste as I was making it. I used the Debdoozie's chili recipe on the site, and it was the most amazing bowl of chili I have ever eaten (Hubby loved it too!) I suppose I am not really reviewing the recipe as written, but at the end of the day, it got me where I wanted to go...I am now a believer in making my own chili seasonings, it is wonderful to not worry about all the "unpronouncable" ingredients in the store bought packages. Thank you so much for posting!!!!

Cincinnati Chili I

Reviewed: Jan. 8, 2011
I have lived in Cincinnati for the last 12 years, and I think this recipe is actually better than the restaurant versions because it has a little bit more of a kick! I think the texture is most similar to the restaurants if you just throw everything in the slow cooker and cook on low for 8-10 hours. I have also used lean ground turkey in place of the beef and it was just as delicious! Thank you sooo much for posting, we make this every week =)

Absolutely Best Brownies

Reviewed: Sep. 18, 2010
This is a wonderful and easy brownie recipe. My 4 year-old loves to help measure the ingredients and mix the batter! I usually reduce the amount of butter to 1/4 cup, and add 1/4 cup of apple sauce to the recipe. It it an easy way to reduce the fat and the brownies taste just as delicious!!! My mother in law always made potato salad just like this...and I am so happy I came across this recipe because now I can make it and it tastes just as good! Thank you so much for publishing this recipe-it is indeed the best potato salad...and completely worth the time and work it takes to make it.

Bryan's Sweet and Hot Tomato Pasta Sauce

Reviewed: Mar. 21, 2009
This is very sweet, I only used 1/2 cup sugar and had to put in more tomatoes and vinegar just to make it tolerable. I would advise anyone making this recipe to start with maybe 1/4 cup sugar and work your way up from there. It tasted quite nice after I added some basil and oregano to it, and I think it would be a really nice pizza sauce, not as good for pasta though. Thank you for submitting, it is a good base recipe to use as a starting point and modify to your taste.

Artichoke & Spinach Dip Restaurant Style

Reviewed: Mar. 12, 2009
I used thawed frozen artichoke hearts because the only canned ones I found had spices and herbs in them. I loved this recipe-hubby and I made it for a movie night and ate it with french bread. It is a hundred times better than the pre-made or frozen kind and very easy to put together. Thanks for submitting!

Wicked Good Veggie Chili

Reviewed: Oct. 26, 2008
I used black beans because that I had them on hand. I also didn't use the cilantro or the green onions-just sour cream and cheddar. It tasted WONDERFUL! This is my first time making veggie chili (I've just started eating veggie) and it is great-I don't miss the meat at all! Thank You!
