Chantal's New York Cheesecake

Reviewed: Nov. 27, 2009
I haven't wrote a review in years, but this exceptional. I made this one a couple of years ago, and it's still the best, but I just did things a little differently. My husband grabbed pre-made graham cracker crust instead of the boxed kind and it still came out great. Matter of fact, the filling was enough for two pre-made graham cracker crusts. Definetly use the water bath concept and make sure eggs and cream cheese are room temperature; my cheesecake has never cracked.

Deviled Eggs

Reviewed: Jul. 7, 2007
A good basic recipe. However, I thought it needed to kicked up a notch. Salt wasn't really needed. Maybe a dijon mustard, or garlic powder would be a nice touch.

Portobello Mushroom Burgers

Reviewed: Jul. 7, 2007
These were really, really good. Great pairing it with grilled onion. I usually don't cook with this type of mushroom, so I didn't remove the gills inside(big mistake). It looked like black ink running off the shroom. So my tip would be, don't forget to scrape the gills off.

Best Brownies

Reviewed: Jun. 11, 2007
Wow! I've been using the deep dish brownie recipe from this site for about a year now on the regular, but THIS recipe really is the best. Doesn't even need any kind of frosting. If you're looking for a cake-like brownie, stay away from this. It's not cakey,or really chewy, but it's pretty good. If you're trying to impress someone, try this is the recipe.

Tortilla Rollups II

Reviewed: Jun. 11, 2007
These are good, just not what I expected them to be from reading all the reviews. It just seemed like something was definetly missing. Even added taco seasoning, olives, and used mild salsa, but it still needed a little help. Maybe refried beans or some kind of meat(ham or chorizo) could gives this a little kick that this need. Might try this again with a little tweeking.

Lemon Sugar Tea Cookies

Reviewed: Jun. 3, 2007
These cookies are on point for the lemon lovers out there. I had to experiment a couple batches to get the right texture. Do not make them bigger than walnut size, because they will spread too much and will fall apart even after they've cooled. Didn't have the lemon extract either, just used the juice and zest(about a tablespoon each) of one lemon. Instead of rolling them in sugar, I just sprinkled it on the top of them. WARNING,HIGHLY ADDICTIVE.

Crazy Cake

Reviewed: Jun. 1, 2007
I'm so impressed with this cake. The family raved over it. Would've never thought this didn't have any milk or egg since is was so moist. This is perfect, even without the frosting. Only thing I added, was a handful of chocolate chips. Very light and airy. Great for vegans too.

Mom's Baked Macaroni and Cheese

Reviewed: Feb. 11, 2007
My hubby loved this. I gave it a 4 because I thought it lacked some flavor. I thought an additonal can of soup was a bit much, 1/2 of the 2nd can was perfect. A couple nice size scoops of sour cream, some pepper, a little nutmeg, and buttery bread crumbs would make this over the top. A 3 quart dish would work better for this as well. Don't get me wrong, my husband still thought this was the best mac and cheese he's ever tasted.

Italian Sausage, Peppers, and Onions

Reviewed: Jan. 12, 2007
Sooo good. My husband comes from a large Italian family and said that this really made him feel close to home. He couldn't stop raving and ate till he hurt himself. The only thing I did different was use beer instead of wine. This'll be a permanent fixture in my home.

Basic Flaky Pie Crust

Reviewed: Dec. 28, 2006
I'm inexperienced at making pie crust, but this went quite well. It really is flaky. Definetly want to try using all butter next time and this would possibly be a 5 star.

Apple Pie by Grandma Ople

Reviewed: Dec. 28, 2006
Wow. This apple pie was on point. Tasted like something you'd get straight out a bakery. Added the suggested tsp cinnamon, couple dashes of nutmeg to the apples. Didn't pour the sauce over the crust though and it was still perfection. This lasted a day in my house. Must try THIS pie.

Beth's Spicy Oatmeal Raisin Cookies

Reviewed: Dec. 28, 2006
Another great cookie. Soaking the raisins was a great suggestion. Adding a couple dashes of nutmeg and another tsp of cinnamon worked out really well. Nine minuetes was the perfect time on these. The end result, a moist and chewy cookie.

Cinnamon Rolls III

Reviewed: Dec. 7, 2006
Exceptional. One word to describe these. I let them rise for an hour until they doubled, but didn't want to bake them all at the same time. I took a few off and baked them and they were perfect. I refidgerated the rest until I was ready to bake, let them sit out for a bit, then baked. Still tasted great, but better if you bake them at the same time. This'll be the only recipe I'll use for cinnamon rolls.

Alaska Salmon Bake with Pecan Crunch Coating

Reviewed: Dec. 6, 2006
Really good. Didn't have dijon mustard,so I used honey mustard eliminating the extra honey in the first step. This was a good alternative for the dijon and it worked pretty good. So glad I doubled the sauce so I could have a little extra. I would make this again.

Slow Cooker Pork Chops II

Reviewed: Nov. 29, 2006
Very good. Used 6 chops with the bone and 2 cups broth. Since these chops have more fat in them, I didn't feel I needed to added much oil,if any. I also doubled the garlic and threw in some onion chunks. I think the boneless chops would work much better so you won't have to worry about fishing out the bones.

Camp Cornbread

Reviewed: Nov. 28, 2006
I served this and I learned that people loved this or hated it because it's quite different from a traditonal cornbread. I used a can of sweetened creamed corn,so it really didn't need more sugar (maybe a sprinkle). I baked this in a 8x8 square dish to have thicker pieces and this worked out great.

Mouth-Watering Stuffed Mushrooms

Reviewed: Nov. 18, 2006
WOW! I've been making the same mushroom recipe for years and I think this one will replace mine. I've made this 3 times in the past week and there's a request for this to made on Thanksgiving. The filling can definetly fill at least 24 shrooms(if you're not not using large ones). These have been the first to disappear off the table every time and it just doesn't seem that I've made enough. I would say this is one of the best recipes(at least from the appetizer section) I've made from all recipes. Thanks Angie!

Mushroom Rice

Reviewed: Nov. 7, 2006
Very good. Used oil instead of butter, 2 cloves garlic and a vidalia onion replacing the green. 1 1/2 cup chicken broth worked best with a long grained rice I used. Would make this again.

April's Chicken Fried Rice

Reviewed: Oct. 31, 2006
My husband loved this dish. I gave it four stars because I thought something was missing. I kinda cheated and took a short cut with the rice. I used cold cooked rice and threw it back in the same pan I cooked the chicken in. Used one more tblspn of soy than it called for and oil instead of butter. My family wants me to make this on a regular basis.

Strawberry Oatmeal Breakfast Smoothie

Reviewed: Oct. 2, 2006
This is great. Made this at least a couple hours ago and I'm still full. Pregrinding the oats was the perfect suggestion by the others. Just sprinkled a little splenda for just a touch of sweetness.
