About this Cook
I have always had an interest in cooking and trying new recipes and techniques. I enjoy reading, movies and music as well, but cooking is my passion. I love to put on some music, pour a glass of wine and prepare a wonderful meal for my family. Seeing my family and friends enjoy the food I've prepared is such a joy.
My favorite things to cook
Anything really. I have my tried and true favorites, but enjoy trying new things as well. I like to tweak recipes and make them my own. I love to cook for friends and family and see them enjoy thier food.
My favorite family cooking traditions
I guess it has to be my Grandmothers carrot cake. This is something that has been on family holiday tables for 3 generations. My husband, who said he didn't like carrot cake when we were dating, changed his mind after tasting mine.It is now his favorite! The recipe can be found on this site. (Grandma's carrot cake)
My cooking triumphs
I consider anything that I cook or bake, that is well received by myself and others to be a triumpth.
My cooking tragedies
I roasted my first Thanksgiving turkey with the bag of innards still in the turkey! So embarrising!

Chili Mac, Mexican Style
Made this for dinner tonight with a couple of changes. Fist I used extra lean ground beef in place of the chorizo due to personal taste and the high fat content in the chorizo. I also did not have poblano peppers so I used a can of chopped green chili's and a can of chopped jalepenos instead. Lastly I added 1 T chili powder and 1t ground cumin to add flavor since I didn't use the chorizo. It turned out pretty good. The hubby have it the thumbs up. I will make this again. .

Extreme Chocolate Cake
Wow...I was looking for a chocolate cake recipe thinking that there might be one here that was better than my old stand by recipe, which I have been making since the 80's and love dearly. I picked this one due to it having such rave reviews and being a staff pick. Wasn't I surprised to find that it is indeed the SAME recipe that I have and have been making for years! I cut it out of a womans magazine in the early 80's. LOL! Guess I will stick to my tried and true and try the frosting recipe that accompanies this recipe. BTW it was a recipe featured in a Hershey's cocoa advertisement, but I have had luck using any unsweetened cocoa powder.

Oven Omelet
Great recipe! I used low fat cheese and added extra ham (personal preferance) and green onions. I also used southern style hash browns, which are diced rather than shredded and browned them prior to adding them. Very good and verey easy. A keeper! I look foward to trying this with different types of meats, cheeses and veggies. The possibilities are endless!Maybe next time I will try it with green chilis and pepperjack cheese...yum!
