About this Cook
My grandmother and mom started teaching me to cook around 10. I have been comfortable in the kitchen ever since. I am very creative. My wife boasts that if you give me just three ingredients, I will come up with something fabulous! Basically, I love to cook.
My favorite things to cook
In the past I would have said italian and BBQ, but due to religious and health issues, I am now focusing more and more on vegetarian and healthy dishes that are tasty and fast. Also, our first daughter was recently born, so easy "cook and forget" recipes like crok-pot stuff has peaked my interest lately
My favorite family cooking traditions
My grandfather made a stuffing every year for Thanksgiving and Christmas. It was the only time every year he cooked, and the only recipe he knew, but it was always awesome. I also remember and loved rolling meatballs with my grndmother. The smell of italian sausage and bell peppers frying always brings back memories of her happy house.
My cooking triumphs
Friends once challenged me to an "Iron Chef" contest where I had to make 5 dishes in an hour from an ingredient they brought with them. The ingredient was asparagus. I made asparagus tempura covered with a marinated bell-pepper sauce. Then, cold asparagus soup with fennel. The main dishes were chicken- wrapped baked asparagus rolls and steamed asparagus covered in parmesean and tyme. Dessert was coconut sorbet covered with a sweet asparagus/honey puree. They loved it.
My cooking tragedies
We went skiing. At the cabin, first night, we all arrived starved and all the shops were closed. There was one package of pasta and one can of tomato sauce. I volunteered to cook. I went to salt the sauce and the lid came off the salt! We were forced to eat the most vile salty spaghetti you have ever tasted.

Slow Cooker Cream of Potato Soup
Great flavor. Used a litle more salt, but overall I really liked this soup.

Holly's Hummus
Simple and tasty. Be careful on the seasoning. Between the olives and about 1/2 teaspoon of salt, it had plenty! 1/4 teaspoon might be a good place to start.

Cracked Sugar Cookies I
Great recipe. I added about 2 TBS of apple sauce to my second batch and I think it gave them a little bit better consistency. They are great even if you follow the recipe exactly.
