Garden Fresh Tomato Soup

Reviewed: Sep. 24, 2012
As is, I would give this recipe a 4 star. It's a good basic recipe the way it is. I have made it 3 times in as many weeks because it is soooo good, with the adjustments. With changes it's an easy 5. First, I double it, then I add: 1-2 T. Balsamic vinegar, a dash of red pepper flakes, 1/2 cup of half and half, and about 20 chopped fresh basil leaves. I have made it with all garden fresh tomatoes, and when I was low on those I subbed a 14 oz can of diced tomatoes for half the tomato amount and both ways it comes out delicious. So tasty and comforting! My entire family, including both my picky kids, love this soup.

Best Ever Caramel Apple Crisp

Reviewed: Jul. 13, 2011
This is the best apple crisp I have ever had in my life. I used the squeeze bottle caramel sauce, because that's what I had on hand, and it came out AMAZING. I don't think I'll ever bother with another apple crisp recipe -- this is my go to recipe now!

Lemon Coffee Cake

Reviewed: Jul. 6, 2011
This is very close to the coffee cake recipe I grew up on. My recipe calls for all of the sugar added to the batter, 1 cup of butter, not oil, and 3 cups of flour. It also has 1 t. vanilla extract. No cinnamon topping, and I usually make it with cherry or apple filling, but I am trying it with the lemon next time. It's my favorite coffee cake recipe!

Golden State Mushroom Soup

Reviewed: Mar. 11, 2011
So good!! I added 2 cooked, skinless chicken breasts to make it more of a main dish soup, and it was like a a chicken mushroom chowder, or a cream of chicken and mushroom soup from scratch. I'm all about making things from scratch wherever possible, and I will be making this again. I think next time I will add some diced potatoes to make it even heartier.

Maple Pecan Shortbread Squares

Reviewed: Mar. 11, 2011
Very tasty!! I don't have any real maple syrup, but I really wanted to try it, so I substituted the maple syrup for light corn syrup and added 1 teaspoon of maple flavored extract. I also threw in about 1/3 cup extra pecans. It was rich and delicious. I will be making these again soon!

Tuna Noodle Casserole from Scratch

Reviewed: Mar. 11, 2011
About 10 years ago, soon after I got married, my husband requested tuna noodle casserole, so I tried my hand at it and made one using one of those cream of sodium soups, and it was soooooo awful I swore I would never make it again. I just recently decided to give it another go, and was really excited to find this recipe! I tried it the other night, and I have to say, I was IMPRESSED!!! This is delicious, and I will absolutely be making it again! I made just a couple of alterations -- I omitted the peas, I added some diced red bell pepper, I mixed some of the cheese into the white sauce, and I had corn flakes on hand, so I mixed those with melted butter and topped it with that. I won't change a thing next time!

Restaurant-Style Buffalo Chicken Wings

Reviewed: Feb. 7, 2011
These are amazing! I have been making them for more than a year now, and my husband still prefers these to any we've had in restaurants since then. Very easy and tasty. I use Tapatio for the hot sauce. I made them for a Super Bowl party recently and everyone loved them!

Donut Muffins

Reviewed: Jan. 24, 2011
Wow, such a simple recipe, but full of great flavor!! LOVED them! I did wonder if there was a mistake in the recipe -- as I was making them I noticed there were no eggs in the recipe, and couldn't imagine a muffin without an egg, so I went ahead and added one. Delicious! Will be making these many more times, and have to agree that the idea to make them mini is genius.

Garlic Croutons

Reviewed: Aug. 23, 2009
By far, these are the best croutons I have ever had. I make my french bread from scratch, and I think that helps the flavor too. I will have trouble ever buying again, and will avoid it whenever possible in favor of these.

Fresh Pineapple Upside Down Cake

Very good!!! I had some left over canned pineapple, so I thought I would try this recipe, and I was pleasantly surprised! I am not even a fan of pineapple, but I gobbled this up.

Sourdough Chocolate Cake

Reviewed: Mar. 18, 2009
I was not fond of this recipe at all. I made this for my son's birthday (4 year old), and he would only eat a few bites before walking away, and he will eat just about anything. My husband didn't like it either, and he loves chocolate cake. The chocolate flavor was very minimal. Not going to make this one again!

Eggnog Quick Bread

Reviewed: Feb. 18, 2009
I loved this bread so much I bought a bunch of eggnog on sale after Christmas and froze it so I wouldn't have to wait a whole year to make this again. It was to die for! I wasn't sure if the eggnog flavor would come through in a baked good, but it was very flavorful and delicious. The first time I made it, I went ahead and added the 3 T oil some suggested, but I think it actually came out TOO moist that way and the bottom sort of condensed on itself, if that makes sense. The second time I made it I went with the way it is written, and found it much better. Perhaps in a dry climate or in the summer it might need the oil, but a winter day in CA didn't need it. I am sooooo adding this to my baked good gift baskets next year!!

Simple Whole Wheat Bread

Reviewed: Jan. 14, 2009
I make this bread at least once a month and we love it!!! Sometimes I substitute molasses for half of the honey, and I like it that way the best. I also like to sub some of the flour for ground oats, and wheat germ for more of a multi-grain type bread.

French Onion Soup V

Reviewed: Jan. 14, 2009
Yum!!!! I have never had french onion soup before, but I wanted to try making some, and this recipe was just wonderful. Even my onion hating husband made "yummy noises" while eating it and requested I make it again. :) I used swiss cheese for the top and homemade french bread from this site, and I also added about a tablespoon of Worcestershire sauce to the broth before adding to the onions. I cooked the onions longer than 10 minutes (more like 30) to give them color, and it really hit the spot on a cold winter night!

French Bread

Reviewed: Jan. 14, 2009
The ingredients for this recipe are so simple I wasn't expecting much, but this recipe was outstanding!! Easily better than supermarket french bread! I was looking for something to top my french onion soup, and this was perfect. My family LOVED it so much I am making it again tonight -- only this time I am doubling it!

Lemon Custard Pudding Cake

Reviewed: Sep. 9, 2008
Wow! I have NEVER had anything quite like this before! So light and delicious! The only thing I altered was to add a half teaspoon of lemon extract (I didn't have any zest!), but other than that I made as is. I cannot wait to make it again!
