This was an interesting and tasty dish, both sweet and savory. I have never had a Bobotie before and enjoyed the unique blend of flavors. I made the recipe exactly as called, using beef (which I browned along with the onion, not straining the juices). This will come out like a quiche when baked. It’s important to add more milk/egg to the mixture mostly covering it prior to baking (I should have added more than I did as it came out a tiny bit dry, but that was my fault).
Curious about the Bobotie I researched it, happy to find similar variations of this recipe. The pictures of other Boboties also resembled this recipe. I will make again, except I may change the meat to ground pork to add a little extra moistness, or perhaps serve it with a simple risotto instead of plain rice.
