I've been married since January 2006. I have one little precious boy, 6 yrs old, and a sweet daughter, 3 yrs old! Our lives are very hectic with the stress of work and Northern Virginia traffic. Often our meals are quick & simple, but when I have time, I love to spend extra time creating elaborate meals. The satisfaction of pleasing my family is well worth the extra time. My husband & I love to have BBQ's & dinner parties every 2-3 months. Last summer we started what may become an annual Cajun Shrimp & Crawfish Boil. It was so much fun because the food is messy & casual, which meant the conversation was lighthearted as well! Each year around Christmas we have a more formal dinner party with candlelight. I love the look of the house with the Christmas decorations & sparkling light. It's even better when the house is filled with friends & family!
My favorite things to cook
I love to bake/cook desserts (and eat them too)!
My favorite family cooking traditions
Christmas Candy-Making...all the girls in the family get together around the first of December and make all kinds of goodies like peanut butter balls, fudge, mounds, haystacks, no-bake cookies, rum balls, pecan tarts, seafoam candy, etc. The best part is the stories and the laughs we share :)
My cooking triumphs
Well, so far so good. I haven't had many disaster meals.. I think it's in the details. If I'm going to cook a simple dinner like cheeseburgers and onion rings, I have fun toppings like guacamole, sauteed mushrooms, bacon, different varieties of cheese (like bleu cheese crumbles), jalapenos, chili, etc & let your guests make their own! Most importantly, I think anything made with love will taste delicious!
My cooking tragedies
Hmm...long story short...my best friend and I burnt down the kitchen my freshman year of high school. Hint: Don't ever let grease drop down in the stove eye.
