BBQ Chili Pasta

Reviewed: Mar. 4, 2006
I was looking for a different pasta dish, rather than the standard tomato- or cream-based ones, so I threw this together one evening hoping for the best. My husband not only enjoyed it, but he called it a name out of his childhood -- "American Chop Suey". He said his parents used to make something similar to this when he was a kid, and was very happy to revisit this memory. Thanks!!

Chicken and Shrimp Jambalaya

Reviewed: Mar. 4, 2006
Loved it, loved it, loved it! I am a cook who often tinkers with recipes as I follow along in the kitchen, but I left this one exactly as described. My husband and I really enjoyed it, but the true test was when I offered some to my friend from Louisiana. She said this Jambalaya was "very authentic" and "tasty", which is high praise from her, indeed! Kudos!!!

Eggnog Cake

Reviewed: Mar. 4, 2006
After reading other reviewers' comments, I followed some advice and made the following alterations: I substituted eggnog (and I used 1 cup versus 3/4 cup), and vanilla extract. I added a cup of rum-soaked dried berries (blueberry, cherry, cranberry). I baked in a bundt pan rather than a loaf pan, and watched cooking times very carefully. The results were delicious -- this was a hit at the day-after-christmas-breakfast with my family. Thanks!

Rich Delights

Reviewed: Mar. 4, 2006
These are hurt-your-teeth sweet, and verrrrry sticky, but my husband absolutely loved them and almost ate a tray in one sitting! I had to really keep an eye on these in the oven so they wouldn't burn, but overall was satisfied with the results.

Coconut Shrimp I

Reviewed: Mar. 4, 2006
Wow-ee!!! Really delicious, and worth the steps. For my dipping sauce I used sweet-n-sour sauce instead of marmalade and added a few drops of hot sauce along with the mustard and horseradish, and it was yummy -- my husband raved over it, and he's not a big fan of seafood :)

Kielbasa Kale Stew

Reviewed: Mar. 4, 2006
I thought this was quite good, but I have to agree with the other reviewers that it required a chicken broth base or it would have been too watery. I also used a combination of potatoes and sweet potatoes, and added some corn. Mmmmmm...

Raspberry Pain au Chocolat (Raspberry Chocolate Croissants)

Reviewed: Mar. 6, 2006
incredibly delicious and wonderfully simple! i changed the recipe by making a thick, homemade raspberry coulis rather than use the jam, and this dessert sang!!!

Ginger Orange Glazed Chicken Wings

Reviewed: Mar. 6, 2006
Super-duper! I made a large batch of drumsticks last night using this recipe and it received raves from my guests. I, too, marinated for 24 hours, flipping occasionally. Also, in my opinion the fresh ginger makes all the difference in the world -- mmmm!!

Fruit Salsa with Cinnamon Tortilla Chips

Reviewed: Mar. 6, 2006
This was such a HIT at a party I hosted last night. At first, people weren't really going for it, but all it took was for one person to make some "oohs" and "aahs", and then the rest of my guests devoured the entire bowl! Thanks for a wonderful, simple recipe!

Pear and Gorgonzola Cheese Pizza

Reviewed: Mar. 6, 2006
This was very special! I substituted pecans instead of using walnuts. The combination for cheeses with the nuts and pears was wonderful! The only thing i will do next time is use a thinner, crispier crust as I think that texture will lend itself better to the other ingredients, but that's only my personal opinion. Yum!!

Figs and Toasted Almonds Brie

Reviewed: Mar. 6, 2006
I made this along with a bunch of other dishes for a party, and this was, by far, the standout of the evening! The only adjustment I made to the recipe was simmering the figs, brown sugar, & vanilla in much more water than the two Tbsp. for about twenty minutes until it turned syrupy. Then I refrigerated this overnight before using on the cheese the next day, letting the figs really absorb the syrup and soften. Heavenly!

Hot and Spicy Tofu

Reviewed: Aug. 9, 2006
i thought this was tasty. i had to doctor the recipe, though (to suit my tastes). However, for anyone just learning to add tofu into their cooking repertoire, it's a good one to start with :)
