About this Cook
I love to cook and entertain and I am always looking for new recipies to try. New recipies or techniques interest me and I like to try them all when I am entertaining.
My favorite things to cook
Cooking appetizers are fun. They are just a bite and need to be flavourful and interesting to entice your guests but not filling enough to ruin the meal you are preparing. I also like different ethnic foods and will occasionally invite friends over for a trip to a foreign land.
My favorite family cooking traditions
With family and friends we get together for holidays and celebrations and each person has part of the meal. A group of friends have gathered together every new years for 30 years. We bring in the New Year by eating a wonderful meal over a 4 hour time and then at midnight we take a walk in the brisk winter air.
My cooking triumphs
I have made many memorable meals and my neices all have their favourites. There is not a family gathering that we get together for that I am not asked to bring my ham puffs or jalapeno poppers. Last Christmas we did the whole day with appetizers and everyone brought something different so we grazed all day rather than eat a big meal as many of us went to at least one other Christmas dinner.
My cooking tragedies
Some of my attempts at new things have ended in disaster. Last year's peach marmalade is one such event. I used to make peach marmalade years ago but I lost my recipe so I tried a new one this year. It was awful. Back to the drawing board.

Saffron Rice
A good recipe I make it in the oven as I never seem to get it right when I cook rice on top of the stove. I also add 2 or 3 caramom pods to add some different flavour to the rice as well.

Pierogies
a good recipe, the dough is easy and the filling is simple. I make these at least once a month, using the plain potato filling, the potato and cheese filling, sourkraut, onion and bacon filling and the cottage cheese filling. When a boil them I cook some of each so there is a variety to serve

Pebber Nodder (Danish Christmas Cookies)
I make a batch of cookies weekly for my dad and I am always looking for something different. I saw this recipe and decided to try it. After reading the reviews saying it needed more cardamom and cinnamon I decided to roll the "pockets" in granulated sugar with a pinch of the spices in it. That added a good bit of flavour. The only other thing I would change is to add 1/2 tsp.of salt and a tsp of vanilla. I might try it next time with the pepper.
