About this Cook
I have been cooking with my dad since I was 5 years old. He has taught me everything I need to know about cooking, and we both love to get in the kitchen and just make whatever we want out of whatever we can find! 2010 Update: I am now a culinary arts student studying to get an Associates degree. I love every minute of my lab classes and have learned more than I could have ever dreamed about cooking.
My favorite things to cook
I love baking and trying new recipes I find online and then trying them out on friends and family members. I love making Chili becuase I never follow the recipe and add new and exciting things every time I make it. I have learned how to make skirt steak in class, and it has become my new thing to make. I also love making chicken stew... it tastes nothing like you think it will and is a crowd pleaser every time!
My favorite family cooking traditions
I can remember always making apple pie with my dad when I was a little girl, a tradition he carried on from his mother. The best part was when we would take the leftover crust and bake it with cinnamon sugar on top.
My cooking triumphs
My favorite thing to do is cook for my parents. I love finding new recipes and then surprising them with how well I can cook. It's all a part of my love for being a hostess!
My cooking tragedies
Fall 2007 I set out to make my own apple pie. I had finally moved into my own place and was in the mood to start baking. I called Dad for our trusted apple pie recipe, and apparently copied the recipe down wrong! Instead of 1/8 teaspoon of salt, I added 8 teaspoons of salt! Needless to say, that pie got thrown out immediately and it is still a great story to tell. Maybe this fall I will try it again!

Apple Crisp II
This recipe has the potential to be outstanding. It is missing a few things- more spices! Ground cloves are a great addition to this recipe as well as a little bit of nutmeg to bring out the cinnamon. Also, water is not flavorful enough to toss the apples with, some apple cider would be the perfect touch.

Chocolate Wave Zucchini Bread
I added coconut to the non-chocolate batter and tossed in some flaked coconut. The flavors went very well together!

Coconut-Lime Cheesecake with Mango Coulis
I thought the cheesecake turned out great but I probably would not use gingersnaps for the crust again. I didn't think the flavors went very well together.
