My favorite things to cook
I love to cook things that make people go "wow!". I love going out to eat then being able to recreate dishes that I had. One of my favorite recipes from this site is the Rosemary Chicken with Orange-Maple Glaze. I have only made it a few times, but when I do it is amazing. I am a big fan of that mix of sweet and savory - fruit and balsamic can do wonders together.
My favorite family cooking traditions
I am a big hot dish fan. Yes, I am from Minnesota so we call it "Hot Dish". My mom would just throw things into the oven and something good would usually come out. We also love to do fondue. We do the oil fondue with chicken, steak, and shrimp. It only happens about once a year for Christmas or a birthday, so it is really nice to get together and have a leisurely meal. We also like to make all kinds of rhubarb desserts in the summer when it grows up in the backyard.
My cooking triumphs
I did make that cornucopia bread from this site for Thanksgiving last year, and it got rave reviews. Everyone was super impressed that I made it myself. Even my dad had to call me up later and ask how to do it since he wanted to give it a whirl. I also like to think that I make a pretty snazzy teriyaki burger.
My cooking tragedies
I have burned my fair share of cookies in the oven, but who hasn't?

Chipotle Honey Roasted Peanuts
Great honey roasted peanut recipe! I left out the other spices and just tossed with the sugar. I will definitely be making these again to use up the 10lb bag of blanched peanuts I bought!

Our Favorite Balsamic Vinaigrette
I scaled it down for a single serving and left out the garlic since I didn't have any at the time. Quick, easy, and tasty. Perfect for weekday salad lunches!

Bacon, Egg, and Cheese Strata
Great base recipe for a breakfast bake. I used whole milk instead (what I had on hand). Added some salt, pepper, and dried parsley to the egg mix. Also used whole pound cooked and crumbled bacon, left out mushrooms, and added sautéed onions and bell peppers. I will definitely be using this base in the future. Will try sausage, ham, and other veggie combinations. I will be using 1lb of whatever meat I use though (1/4 cup is definitely not enough!). Easy to tailor to your own taste. Guests loved it. Thanks!
