Fig Bars

Tried this recipe with much trepidation as did others but was encouraged that everyone said they tasted great. And they do! However there were errors made in the recipe. First, other than omitting vanilla from the ingredient list, which I didn't use, the ingredient list is correct. However, the mixing instructions should have been more like a pastry mix rather than a cake mix. I didn't cream the butter and sugar. I added the sugar to the other dry ingredients then cut in the butter just as I would for pie pastry. Then I added the milk. I did have to add a tablespoon extra milk but that kind of variant occurs with any pastry recipe according to the humidity of the flour so I didn't think anything of that. After mixing with a fork, I continued mixing the dough with my hands until it came together, exactly like pie pastry. Then I rolled half out, spread with the fig filling, covered with the other half of rolled out pastry and pinched the edges. Turned out great!

Honey Oatmeal Bread II

Gramma's Date Squares

Very good recipe but I did make a few changes. I didn't add sugar or lemon juice to the dates and didn't both cutting them. The filling still turned out perfect. I added an egg to two thirds of the crust/topping ingredients then pressed this into the bottom of the pan, then just sprinkled the remaining third on top. Although they turned out tasty, the top was too loose and shook off while you ate. I might add more butter to the recipe to help it hold together better next time. Overall, quite good.

Granola Recipe Bars

This was the first time I tried a recipe without reading the reviews first - what a mistake. This recipe didn't work at all. I followed all the directions precisely and when I took it out of the oven for the second time it was just a mess. Nothing held together at all. I just mixed it all up and put it back in the oven to crisp it up a bit.

Marinated Mushrooms II

These are awesome! I didn't have button mushrooms so I just cut my large mushrooms in halves and quarters. Took me 10 minutes. They can be an appetizer, or serve hot for a nice side dish.
