Your house will smell amazing as this cooks! I've made it three times, and each time it's received rave reviews from my guests.
It's worth using the freshest ingredients possible for the best results (the first time I used dried garlic, and it wasn't as good). I also throw in a handful of low-fat bacon bits and half teaspoon of beef soup base; otherwise it comes out a little too sweet for my taste.
I use a Louis Jadot Pinot Noir (a true burgundy wine), and it carmelizes everything beautifully. When I add the mushrooms for the last 30 min of cooking, I also add a cup of chopped celery, just because I like it.
This is a perfect dish for entertaining, as it can bake away while you socialize with your guests. Great, solid recipe, well worth the time.
