Wow! This was the first time I have ever made doughnuts & these are delicious! I just started to work with yeast, so I am starting to branch out. I changed a couple of things per the reviews. I used a little less than 1 cup of sugar in the dough, and added about 1 tablespoon to the yeast/water mixture and set in the oven on warm while I prepared the milk mixture. I heated the milk on medium heat along with the sugar, shortening, and salt. Once the shortening melted, I took it off the burner & added 1-teaspoon vanilla extract per other reviews and a dash of cinnamon. I then combined the yeast & milk mixtures, and instantly added 2 cups of flour to cool off the milk, mixed well then added the 2 eggs, which I had beaten. I then added more flour as needed and continued with the recipe as is. I think the extra sugar, vanilla, and cinnamon enhanced this recipe and made for a wonderful flavor. I also made a maple glaze since it is fall along with the vanilla glaze. Delicious!
