About this Cook
I live in a suburb of Sydney with my husband and three kids. We like doing things together as a family whenever we can as my husband spends long periods away in the Navy.
My favorite things to cook
Currently having fun with my new electric pressure cooker. Risottos in 7 minutes, pulled pork in 25 minutes, and delicious soups. Going to try some puddings in it next.
My favorite family cooking traditions
My late father was Swedish, and my Mum and I love the traditional dishes from the south of Sweden. I also enjoy experimenting with Amercian-style recipes. I learn lots of gourmet tips from my clever sister who is always trying recipes from the latest foodie magazines.
My cooking triumphs
I did a complete Jamie Oliver Christmas Menu for my family a few years ago, and it was the first time I'd ever cooked a whole turkey. I did it in a tiny kitchen in 40 degree Sydney summer heat, but it was worth it! My brother-in-law said it was the best turkey he'd ever eaten. We finished up with "Jamie's Nan's Plum Pudding" and then opened a mountain of presents. Magic!!
My cooking tragedies
I was making chicken liver pate and filled the blender with piping hot livers ready to blend. Unfortunately, I didn't put the lid on properly before I switched it onto max! Result... my extremely small kitchen was covered in steaming gobs of liver - walls, floor, ceiling, lights ... and worst of all ME!

Barbequed Marinated Flank Steak
Made it exactly as directed, except only marinated for 2 hours. I'm sure it would be even better with a longer time, but it was delicious even with only a short marinade time! Boiled the remaining marinade to make it safe and served the thinly sliced meat on a platter with the cooked marinade drizzled over. Looking forward to the cold leftovers tomorrow night. Thank you for sharing.

Mrs. Sigg's Fresh Pumpkin Pie
Delicious pie, very nice light texture. Did as suggested by another reviewer and whizzed all the ingredients in my food processor. I had to guess the amount of pumpkin as we don't have sugar pumpkins here in Australia, so used half a butternut pumpkin which I just microwaved in the skin and scooped out when soft. We also don't have tinned pumpkin, so really appreciated a recipe using fresh. It all worked out well, and we had the pie with dollop cream. Thanks very much!

Brown Sugar and Spice Dry Ham Rub
Used this rub on a 5kg sugar-cured smoked ham on the bone. Scored the fat into diamonds, rubbed in the mix, then studded with whole cloves. Baked at 180 degrees Celsius for 50 minutes, basting every 10 minutes with the juices from the ham. I made my own pumpkin spice from a recipe from this site, but due to allergies I subbed pimento (allspice) for cinnamon and omitted onion. Absolutely delicious - thanks very much for sharing!
