Easy Slow Cooker French Dip

Reviewed: Jun. 28, 2006
We made this recipe last night. I added a bay leaf and used Samuel Adams Boston Lager. It was easy and tasty. By 7 hours the meat was falling apart, next time I'll decrease the cooking time by an hour so I can actually slice the meat so it won't be as messy. I'll also sautee some onions to place on the sandwich and add either swiss or provolone cheese. We'll definitely make this again.

Stuffed Pork Chops III

Reviewed: Jun. 29, 2006
I rarely cook pork but I'll make this again with a few alterations. I'll add celery and sautee them with the onion before mixing the stuffing. I also slightly thickened the broth at the end and it was excellent.

Crab-Stuffed Filet Mignon with Whiskey Peppercorn Sauce

Reviewed: Jul. 6, 2006
My husband and I both give this recipe 5 stars. The first time I made it was without mushrooms (I don't like them) and was pretty good. I just made it a second time, this time with baby bella mushrooms to see which way is better. It was wonderful. I did skip the bacon this time because it is rich enough without it. I loved the stuffing and sauce and can't wait to make it again. I will never make a filet mignon another way.

Pasta with Tuna, Sun-Dried Tomatoes, Artichoke Hearts, Lemon, and White Wine

Reviewed: Jul. 6, 2006
I really liked the flavor of this dish but next time I'll decrease the amount of pasta or increase the artichoke and sun dried tomatoes. We'll be making this again.

Asian Barbequed Steak

Reviewed: Jul. 6, 2006
We marinated the steak for 24 hours and tasted great...just a little salty. It could have been the brand of fish sauce or chili sauce. Next time I'll try marinating it for half a day and see if that may help. ***Update, we make this about every other week and might be one of my husband's favorite dishes. What we do: I use Lee Kum Kee's Chili Garlic Sauce and Orchids Fish Sauce. We marinade it for about 8 hours and tastes best over a charcoal grill. It's a big hit with guests. We won't cook a flanksteak any other way.

Blue Cheese, Bacon and Chive Stuffed Pork Chops

Reviewed: Jul. 9, 2006
My husband rates this a 4 and I rate it a 2. I had never had blue cheese and didn't like the flavor...way to strong for me. However, my husband is a blue cheese fan. I cut the blue cheese in half, added an extra piece of bacon, and more chives. This wasn't good enough for me to make again.

Lahmahjoon (Armenian Pizza)

Reviewed: Jul. 9, 2006
Three grocery stores and I couln't find ground lamb so I used turkey instead. We liked the taste, it was unique. I wasn't able to sit the mixture as long as suggested but was still great. I plan on making it again, hopefully with lamb next time.

Banana Nut and Ginger Bread

Reviewed: Jul. 9, 2006
The best banana nut bread I have ever made or tasted. We used homebrew chocolate stout for the beer and put dates in only one loaf because I was initially concerned that we wouldn't like it. However, we compared and we thought either way it tasted great. So, if you don't have the dates, don't worry it will still taste wonderful. It is a heavy bread, but you don't make banana nut bread to be light! ****we make this bread all the time. Changes to the recipe: decrease sugar to 1.5 cup (otherwise it's more like a cake), use whole wheat flour, omit the oil and cardamon and sometimes the dates. We give this as gifts to neighbors and friends and they always compliment it.

Extreme Banana Nut Bread 'EBNB'

Reviewed: Jul. 9, 2006
I would rate this a 4.5 if I could only because we found a slightly better banana nut bread recipe (Banana Nut and Ginger Bread). I will make this one again if I don't have all of the ingredients on hand for the other one.

Salmon Fettuccine with Spinach

Reviewed: Jul. 9, 2006
I've made this twice now and think it is excellent. I decreased the capers by half the second time and found that to work better for us. We also increased the smoked salmon a little and used salmon my dad personally smoked and sent to us (yummy!). The only other difference was chicken stock versus veggie stock. It worked well for us. We'll be making this again.

This seemed to take forever to make but it was worth it. I followed the directions and came out extremely tasty. This one is a keeper.

Quick Italian Meatball Soup

Reviewed: Jul. 9, 2006
I substituted bread crumbs for wheat germ and came out pretty good. I'll make the meat balls slightly smaller next time, otherwise I won't change a thing. We'll make this again once it drops below 90 degrees or so.

Slow-Cooker Chicken Tortilla Soup

Reviewed: Jul. 9, 2006
I would rate this a 5 but I think I like Chicken Taco Soup (from allrecipes.com) more and it's even easier to make than this recipe. Otherwise, this was a tasty meal. Check out the other recipe for ease and taste.

Apple Crisp II

Reviewed: Jul. 9, 2006
I've made this several times now and it is the best apple crisp I have ever made or tasted. I always get compliments on it and it is usually eaten too fast to keep left overs around. It is excellent warm with vanilla ice cream.

Corned Beef and Cabbage I

Reviewed: Jul. 9, 2006
We use a crok pot and add potatoes to the recipe and love it. It always comes out more tender this way. We make it every once in awhile and this it is the best way to have corned beef.

Pumpkin Curry Soup

Reviewed: Jul. 9, 2006
If you are craving pumpkin this will fill your desire. I've make this twice now and love it each time. I've always wanted to make a creamy pumkin soup (versus the rice/chunky version) and this fit the bill. The curry is a nice complimentary spice. If you are looking for a soup that is unique to serve at a meal this one is wonderful. Even those that aren't the biggest pumpkin fans think it's good.

Alaskan Salmon Chowder

Reviewed: Jul. 9, 2006
Excellent. It's not difficult to make and it tastes great. We usually double the recipe and freeze a large portion for later on. We've sent this recipe to friends and family and everyone who has made it also enjoys it.
