Matzoh Ball Soup

Reviewed: Mar. 29, 2013
this recipe is a LOT of work. I buy a Costo roasted chicken, and debone it and use the bones and skin with an quartered onion and a couple of carrots to make the soup. It makes an outstanding chicken broth (or stock) and you have the meat to use in any one of a dozen ways with a lot less effort. I didn't have a bubbe but grew up in a Jewish neighborhood, and when we went to the local deli, I learned to love Matzoh ball soup.

Basic Crepes

I have for years used this to make blintzes. Warmed cottage cheese mixed with crushed pineapple and sugar makes a great filling.

Sour Cream Pound Cake

Reviewed: Apr. 12, 2010
I have a 6 cup bundt pan that I have rarely been able to use. This was a perfect fit. I too added vanilla for one baking and vanilla and lemon for another. It has been great each time. I don't like using a hot oven for baked goods so I used 350 and watched it closely as the bundt takes less time than a loaf.

Sweet Candied Orange and Lemon Peel

Reviewed: Apr. 9, 2009
Have used a similar recipe for years. I use a potato peeler to remove the skin, then remove any pith left with the side of a spoon. My recipe (from a very old cookbook, calls for boiling 15 min. then pouring off the water, and repeating the boil. Then making the simple syrup and cooking it for 30 min. I usually dry it out, but have also just frozen it. I have used it on the top of cake frosting in small dice and also in muffins in larger pieces.

Super Summer Salsa

Reviewed: Sep. 9, 2008
Served this, as a side dish, at our neighborhood monthly potluck, and everyone loved it. I used less sugar, as I find rice (wine) vinegars differ in the amount of sweetening they need. I could not find white canned corn, so used a yellow sweet corn, which worked out fine. I also added a splash of oil, and served it as a salad. Really good.
