I just fed the family a perfectly lovely concoction that was loosely described as a stir-fry served over brown basmati rice.  It was tasty, loaded with veggies and filling. My problem at this point: I. WANT. JUNK!  The sweet beast must be fed!  This, to be exact:… MORE

About this Cook
I used to be scared to cook, especially since I couldn't even do "Rice A Roni" correctly, now I know that if you read directions properly and do what they say, it's a rare thing to have a recipe not turn out. I'm excited to finally be at the point where I can experiment in the kitchen!
My favorite things to cook
I really will try to cook anything at least once, and I think that overall I enjoy the experience of cooking more than anything. Of course having something yummy to eat at the end of the experience is good, too!
My favorite family cooking traditions
Mostly comfort foods like Turkey or Chicken and Noodles, Pasty, etc.
My cooking triumphs
General Tso's Chicken! After receiving a basic recipe from a friend, I scoured the internet for others and did comparisons. First on paper, then on the stove. After several attempts and tweaks, I have a recipe that is spot-on for my favorite Chinese takeout! And then there's the Tiramisu...
My cooking tragedies
I would be remiss if I didn't say there have been some major yucks: including a goat meat dish! Rather than dwell though, I build on what I can only see as experience. "Well, I know to not do THAT again!"

Five Flavor Pound Cake I
The only thing I changed were the flavors used in this. I had no coconut or rum extract, so my solution was to do 2 tsp of Malibu Coconut Rum. I also used 1 tsp almond extract, 1 tsp vanilla extract and 1 tsp lemon extract. I brought the whole milk, eggs and butter to room temperature, and really whipped the butter, shortening and sugar half to death. The cake only needed 1:30 to cook in my oven, and we topped it with fresh strawberry puree and fresh strawberry slices. This is a keeper, and if I could give it more than five stars, I would!

Slow Cooker Chicken Taco Soup
This was a hit in my house, even my five year old went back for seconds! I think this one is in the rotation for the upcoming chilly season. Thanks for a yummy treat, Patti!

Philly Cheesesteak Sandwich with Garlic Mayo
This popped up as the recipe du jour and I was hungry at the time, so this was dinner. I made it as stated: my husband had *three*, my three year old had nearly a whole one and even my picky five year old liked it. Thank you for a delicious recipe, this goes in the box!
