Angel Hair Pasta with Pignoli

Reviewed: Jan. 31, 2006
While tasty, this seemed a little bland for such a huge amount of calories (jeez!). Used way less pasta and sauce for two people... Added spinach and chicken for the boyfriend.

Gypsy Soup

Reviewed: Jan. 29, 2006
I adore this! I added more cayenne pepper and cinnamon cause I like them a lot. Next time I might do more changes just to... change it up. It makes less than I thought? I imagined it to make a lot more. Like another reviewer, I added a little extra stock... it seemed like the broth to vegetable ratio was a little wacky to my taste. Still! Delicious!!

Graham Griddle Cakes

Reviewed: Jan. 29, 2006
These are good. My boyfriend liked them more than I did, but I really liked them! I had to use walnuts cause I had run out of pecans the night before. I also toasted them before adding them in. I also added cinnamon and ginger, and a touch of nutmeg. A really nice thing about them is that, unlike most waffles and pancakes, they're not completely filling-- so you can eat more of what you make. :) Always a bonus.

Caramel Apple Pork Chops

Reviewed: Jan. 29, 2006
We found this delicious. I tripled the sauce and added ginger and just a dash of ground gloves. Also put it in the oven like other reviewers. I served this with greenbeans and herb stuffing with cranberries and toasted walnuts mixed in.

Spice Cookies with Crystallized Ginger

Reviewed: Jan. 23, 2006
These are really delicious. I added a little extra sugar and changed some things around. Like using baking powder instead of soda, using a little brown and cutting the corn syrup in half. Adding a little yolk, and later an itsy bit of milk. I added more of each spice plus nutmeg too-- I like mine full of flavour. The reason for most of this was because I like a fluffier cookie, so mine were a tad different... I'm sure the crunchy cookie is absolutely to-die-for as well! Like another reviewer, I left the powdered sugar off.

Bourbon Pecan Chicken

Reviewed: Jan. 23, 2006
This was so good. I did as a lot of people said and used less soy sauce, etc. I also added a little more brown sugar to the sauce and cut back on the butter. I had purchased "light" butter and it really did come out delicious still. This is a keeper, absolutely.

Maple Dill Carrots

Reviewed: Jan. 23, 2006
These were so very delicious. One of my guests that I fed claimed to have never liked cooked carrots until this particular dish. I used the frozen tubes of dill instead of fresh cut dill. It tastes the same, but is easier and faster to use.

Orange Cilantro Rice

Reviewed: Jan. 23, 2006
This was really good, while it was cooking everyone kept commenting on how good it smelled. It wasn't strong enough to overpower any other dishes, but held up well on its own too. If you, like me, are unable to find fresh cilantro (most of the stores here don't want to carry it, it seems) then you can find dried cilantro and use extra, letting it sit in there a little longer so it doesn't taste as dry. This also was a little tough. Cover it while simmering so that the rice gets softer than it would otherwise.
